What have they done to Evans?

Went in today for a look, havent been in for ages. Not a lot of stock and at least half of it was Wallis in smaller sizes. I'm a size 22. There are so many shops I can go into where the clothes dont fit me. At least in Evans I can buy anything I want as I know they'll have my size. Until now.

Totally first world problem. Where do you buy plus size clothes at high street prices? (I dont like Yours)

Have you tried White Stuff? They go up to a Size 22. Annoyingly I didn’t realise for years and years. If you’re close to one of their outlets it’s fab because most things seem to be a size 8 or a 22. I love their stuff, some of it is quirky but lots of it is really flatteringly cut and washes well.

I buy Boden second hand on eBay....it wears so well that I have things I've bought second hand and worn for years and they still look great.

Thanks. I dont think I possess anything from either white stuff or boden. I am a bit stuck with oversized shapeless baggy stuff at the moment so will try both of those suggestions

Sainsburys

QuestionableMouse · 28/08/2020 21:38

I've just bought a few tops and pjs from Land's End. Really good quality and feels flattering but more on the expensive side.

Ooooh Lands End is a good shout and if you sign up for their mailing list you get some good discounts / free postage offers. I fell in love with a purple jumper they were selling in Debenhams for £65. Absolutely would never pay that for a jumper. Went to their website and signed up, got it in their sale a few weeks later for £12 with free delivery. DH mocks me because he says half the reason it’s my new favourite jumper is because I got such a bargain - even my supermarket jumpers cost more than that!

Ebay definitely your friend for White Stuff too - I first fell in love with a skirt with little old fashioned typewriter print on it. Their skirts are around £45 new but I got it on EBay for £6. And if you can be bothered anything you don’t like can be sold on.

YorkshireIndie · 29/08/2020 07:33

Seasalt do larger sizes and they actually stock it in store!

magicstar1 · 29/08/2020 07:52

I’m bigger than you. I gave up on Evans years ago and shopped at Yours, but their clothes have been awful for a while now.
I’ve gotten lots of stuff in ASOS, and their sales are good.

MrsSchadenfreude · 29/08/2020 08:08

I’m wearing a pair of jersey shorts from Lands End today. They are at least 24 years old. They are a bit faded but the cotton still looks great.

I never go near Evans. Most of their stuff in recent years looks like giant polyester tents. I buy stuff from Boden (always holds its price well if you want to eBay it later), M & S Autograph, Next, Seasalt (but be careful to avoid the Sunday school teacher look), Lands End, Monsoon, and the odd thing from Simply Be.

gubbbbbddaaaa · 29/08/2020 08:19

Next do up to 24 in some things on line or yours .. also boohoo goes up to 28 or something . ( I have a plus size friend who always looks lovely )

RuthW · 29/08/2020 08:21

I'm your size. My clothes come from Matalan, Tesco, Sainsbury's, JD Williams, Popsy.

I also hate Yours.

MadameBlobby · 29/08/2020 08:23

I hate yours as well. I mainly shop online now but I have some nice (casual) dresses from Mountain Warehouse of all places.

gavisconismyfriend · 29/08/2020 08:24

Seasalt do some of their range in up to size 28. Safari also have a good sizing range, but are a bit more expensive - nice for special occasions though

ChristmasinJune · 29/08/2020 08:25

I've rediscovered Dorothy Perkins Curve this year. It's not high end admittedly but they deliver fast, are inexpensive and the clothes are roomy. Out of 3 big orders I've had things that I wear almost continuously.

Somethingkindaoooo · 29/08/2020 08:26

Typewriter skirt?
Would love a picture!!

MrsSchadenfreude · 29/08/2020 08:36

I’ve also got some stuff from Wallis, which wears well.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 29/08/2020 08:43

As said white stuff, Boden, joules, sea salt, fat face & Landsend all fab and good quality items that last and wash and wear well.

I recently visited gunwharf quays and the white stuff outlet there. They didn’t have anything above an 18 and when I asked as saw a dress my sister would have loved, they said they rarely carried anything bigger.

If you want to shop the high street then Dorothy Perkins, next, all do a 22 and usually have stock.

Then supermarkets. Asda and Sainsburys. I don’t go to Tesco but I’ve heard Tesco is good as well.

I used to be a 24/26 and so could only shop at a few shops. Now a 16/18 but sizing is still always on my mind when I shops.

Oh just remembered another one Debenhams own brands usually go to a 24/26. Manataray, Maine, principles, there’s a range by savannnah miller that Goes to a 22 if you want something a bit different and also preen studios.

MrsSchadenfreude · 29/08/2020 08:56

I have some nice tops by Mantaray. And some fabulous wide leg linen trousers from Sainsbury’s. Next and M & S are good for jeans.

Thank you all so much for the suggestions. Loads for me to think about. I shall also continue to lurk on the what are you wearing today thread for ideas Smile
