Face powder / powder foundation

Hi everyone,

I’ve been a die hard lover of the body shop “all in one face base” for 15+ years. It’s basically a face powder / foundation in a hard pressed powder which when you brush onto your face makes you look all flawless and airbrushed. Well, it did for me.
Body shop JK arguments aside, I am absolutely devastated they’ve discontinued this. Their customer service keeps recommending their new product version which has 100% horrendous reviews.
and irritatingly you can still buy the face base from the international stores, you just can’t bloody ship to the U.K.

So, does anyone have any idea what I can use that’s similar? Rather not use foundation “proper” ie; cream or liquid or mousse etc, quite happy with just a powder, but I don’t think normal face powders have that foundation-y cover if you see what I mean?

Any ideas? Help!

There looks as if there are still some shades available? Can you not go one shade lighter than you have now?

Chanel, Armani and Estée Lauder all have powder foundations which give good coverage.

redferrari · 27/08/2020 23:05

Mac studio fix powder foundation gives a good coverage and they have a good range of shades

SillyMoomin · 28/08/2020 04:36

Sadly not @Ivgotasecretcanyoukeepit

Ooh thanks @redferrari that actually looks like it good be a great mirror product!, thank you!

Max factor facefinity powder foundation. Limited shades but if you get a good match it is nice.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 28/08/2020 11:11

Clinique double face powder is good, I've used it for years.

Frankiegoes · 28/08/2020 15:12

I like Bare Minerals

SillyMoomin · 28/08/2020 21:18

Thanks everyone! Think a trip to the beauty stands is in order!

Max Factor FaceFinity is good if you don't need a lot of coverage.

La Roche Posay Toleriane Teint offers more coverage.

Shiseido is the blue compact with SPF 50 is absolutely gorgeous, but pricey.

Bare minerals original is a favourite. I like the matt one too.

Depends on budget and what type of coverage you are after.

I was also going to suggest MAC studio fix but someone has beat me to it

MoverOfPaper · 29/08/2020 21:07

Does anyone understand the colour symbols on Mac Studio fix? I’m a Warm Ivory in the Bobbi Brown Skin Weightless Powder Compact Foundation. I assumed I’d always be a “warm” as I’m an autumn skin tone, but Mac seem to have lots of neutrals or cools and I don’t think that’s right for me. I did go into the Mac in Covent Garden pre-lockdown to get matched but the staff were so rude and dismissive I left.
It looks like I’m on a hunt too @SillyMoomin as I’ve tried a few sites to buy more of my Bobbi Brown and they’re out of stock!

SillyMoomin · 29/08/2020 21:22

I went onto the Mac online chat and they Colour matched me by looking at a few photos I uploaded mover.

Not sure how accurate it is!, but but sure you can go test samples either these dats - quite reluctant to buy without being sure Confused

findation.com/

I have used this site a while ago recommended by a friend (it's accurate for my Mac and ELDW shades, both matches in counters)

GreyHare · 29/08/2020 21:55

I like Laura Gellar's Balance and Brighten, plus if you buy it from QVC the have a no quibble 60 day return, so you can try products and return if you don't like it and just pay postage.

Jellycatspyjamas · 29/08/2020 23:54

I swear by Bare Minerals.

TitoTipples · 30/08/2020 00:06

I live in the US: and it's available on their website here. I can't yet see if they will ship internationally to the UK (I checked their delivery FAQs) - but if they do, I would be happy to order for you and you can PayPal / Venmo me...
They have 11 shades available - all at $22 a piece (although minimum delivery is $35).

That aside - I too swear by Bare Minerals!

violetbunny · 30/08/2020 04:01

@moverofpaper The letter denotes what type of undertone it is. So N= neutral, NW=cool, and NC=Warm (which is counterintuitive I know!)

The number denotes how light or dark the shade is. The higher the number the darker the shade.

So for instance, I am a light-medium skintone with warm (yellow) undertones and my shade is NC25. Someone with lighter skin and a cool (pink) undertone could be, say, NW15.

SillyMoomin · 30/08/2020 09:12

That’s so kind of you tito, thank you, but I’m going to try and find one in the U.K. - have visions of eventually the entire Int’l stock running out soon otherwise!

MoverOfPaper · 30/08/2020 10:28

Thanks so much Violet and Red, that site is amazing. I can only remember one of my shades, the Bobbi Brown Warm Ivory, and I’ve come out as a Mac NC16. Red’s info now makes sense as previously I found being cool counterintuitive.

What are you going to try SillyMoomin? I think you’re right that we won’t be able to test shades and I can’t afford to make too many mistakes.

SillyMoomin · 31/08/2020 09:08

I’m going to try this Mac studio fix thingy, and try and get into a department store to at least look at the Colours in person before I buy. Hopefully that will help!

SillyMoomin · 31/08/2020 09:09

Though of course, as soon as I jump brands, watch Mac then announce they’re discontinuing Wink

MoverOfPaper · 31/08/2020 10:52

Isn’t that the way! I’ve moved between various different but similar products at Laura Mercier and Bobbi Brown over the years. I now can’t even remember THE product I started with.

Thecobwebsarewinning · 31/08/2020 17:04

The Laura Gellar Balance and `brighten mentioned above is very good.
