The Truth about Cosmetic Surgery BBC last night

Did anyone watch this last night? It was quite an eye opener! Unbelievable that fillers etc. are completely unregulated and anyone can buy it and administer it!

Also, they tested some treatments such as collagen shots and microneedling to see if they made any difference...they didn’t!

It makes you wonder if a lot of it is a big con...

I recorded it and plan to watch it later.
I'm also a bit Confused about some of these beauty claims.
I agree about them being unregulated. I know a woman who has zero medical experience who now does BOTOX and fillers.

I only watched a little bit of it - that fraxel treatment Michael had done on his crow's feet looked really painful. Expensive rubbish!
I think most of it is rubbish tbh - our skin cell turnover is very rapid so anything that worked would have to be more fundamental, I suppose. I'm of the opinion that you've got what you've got and you make peace with it. The big lips etc look silly.

RD15 · 26/08/2020 07:34

I agree about the big lips- most I’ve seen don’t look natural at all. I’m far too much of a worrier to have any sort of fillers.

Everyone’s looking for a shortcut to living healthily & eating properly aren’t they?.

beguilingeyes · 26/08/2020 08:35

RD15 If the fillers don't look natural then either they've just got too much or it's been badly done.

I'm 59 and my never all that great lips have pretty much disappeared. I've had one lot of injections and I'm about to get a second lot done. It's really barely noticeable..it just means that I can wear lipstick again.

The collagen experiment was so interesting. Barely any difference after all the treatments. It does sound like some procedures are based on poor science.

The only things I thought made a noticeable difference were the non surgical nose job and the lips. The shape of the nose in profile did look straight. The lips I think proves you need to go to someone with the right credentials or you can end up in all sorts of bother. It really is scary that virtually anyone can set themselves up and do these sorts of things.

I was working with someone the other day who had obviously very very filled lips and she looked so bizarre I was embarrassed to look at her at first. She seemed happy with them though. They must feel odd when talking when they’re that big?!

I think they take a bit of getting used to. A woman caught my eye the other day because her lips were disproportionately large for her face and she kept alternately sucking her top and bottom lip in and out.

I would have been transfixed Blush

I'd love to hear the opinion of someone who's had fillers done. I am considering fillers and/or a mini-facelift and it'd be great to hear what someone with first-hand experience thought of the programme.
