If I like these skirts, what to buy next...?

I already have very similar skirts to these and like this look, so any suggestions what I can buy next? I don't have a massive wardrobe and only buy 3 or 4 things a year but literally not bought anything since lockdown and desperate for something new Grin

What gaps are there in your wardrobe? What do you need more of? That's where I'd start.

thisgirlrides · 23/08/2020 12:16

I really need some clothes for cooler days but not entirely sure what! I pretty much live in either dresses or sun tops and skirts but the full skirt/nipped in waist doesn't work if you chuck a coat or cardigan over it as you look like a tent!

I guess some trousers or jeans but have chunky thighs (hence skirt/dress obsession) plus need something for covering up top - cardigans, jacket, lightweight jumpers? I had a massive wardrobe cull last year and do have a small but reasonable summer wardrobe although really lacking for the rest of the year!

Lightweight knits you can tuck into your skirts?

Twaddledee · 23/08/2020 12:30

Or other option is a cropped cardigan. Also maybe some suede long boots you can wear with your skirts to take them into winter. Then for coats you need either full length or nipped in and cropped I suppose to work with your lively skirts.

Lovely

Twaddledee · 23/08/2020 12:31

Also maybe a leather skirt? Sorry for train of consciousness posting!...

I like full skirts too, but I need to balance them with something fitted on top, otherwise I look huge. Tops, blouses that I can tuck in and cropped knitwear are what I usually go with. I have a couple of blazers that fit well on the shoulders and slightly nip in at the waist that look good with full skirts.

A biker jacket

SugarButterFlour · 23/08/2020 17:57

Where is the denim skirt from? It's lovely.

malificent7 · 23/08/2020 18:34

I love them, especially the velvet one! A black fitted top would go with them all.

DianaT1969 · 23/08/2020 18:45

A biker jacket in suede or leather for non rain.
What jacket would you wear with them in rainy weather?
How about a COS dress to just above the knee with your current ankle boots and tights and a waterproof car coat in navy from John Lewis or Uniqglo, or with a trench from one of the French stores or a preppy store like JCrew.

thisgirlrides · 24/08/2020 09:39

@SugarButterFlour I cant seem to find the source of this Pinterest image but mine was Vivienne Westwood £20 in a pre-loved sale Grin! Anthropology used to do a similar one although they are too pricey for me (I'm big on vintage or secondhand designer).

Loving some of these suggestions so now off to source some fine knits and fitted jackets that won't bankrupt me!

@DianaT1969 that's the problem I don't really know!! I'm crap at winter clothing and feel I've sussed my summer look by keeping it very simple and with a few key items and want to do the same for autumn and winter without spending ££££ on an entire new wardrobe.
Waterproofs are an issue with fuller skirts so I do need some trousers or might look at tweed type more fitted or balloon style so I can wear boots and tights plus a coat won't look so ridiculous. When you say COS dress, what exactly is that?

Cropped cardies and thin, tucked in jumpers look good with the full skirts to keep the hourglass shape.

For coats, either go short to waist band, so leather biker jacket with the full skirt look or go longer coat/rain mac with a belt. (I am after a long winter coat as I hate the 2 inches of skirt poking out look, either want it to look like the coat is supposed to be short to show the skirt or long enough to cover it.)

Gillybobs · 24/08/2020 10:50

If you really prefer this silhouette, wear your skirts with fleece lined tights and chunky ankle boots, and buy heattech long sleeve tops to wear on your top half ...under whatever normal tops you like.

If your looking for a short waterproof, protected species do a gorgeous biker style waterproof jacket called the City Walker.

ramarama · 24/08/2020 12:36

I have similar taste (and thighs!)

I'd say for winter dressing you need similar skirts but less flared, more A-line. Make sure jumpers are relatively short/cropped, so you still have a semi-visible waist (usually layers of fitted/thinner jumpers are better than chunky knits) Plus black tights when needed with black trainers or black low ankle boots. I find my skirts get a little shorter in winter, as looks neater under coats and proportions work better.

Keep an eye on Boden, M&S for skirts (maybe cord) And Asos and Next websites have good search filters and can be good sources too
