Collagen supplements

I am menopausal and getting noticeably baggy/less firm/cellulite ridden...should I try collagen supplements? Do they work?

If so any recommendations would be great.

I’d like to see some hard evidence for them not wild claims. If you’re menopausal HRT is what you need to discuss with your dr but we lose 30% of our collagen at menopause & 2% a year thereafter.

Collagen from bone broth would probably be best but Great Lakes and Lineavi are good brands.

Most people that try the supplements (Absolute Collagen etc) notice an improvement. They won't make you look 18 but they should plump your skin a bit.

I sailed through menopause tbh, apart from the "ooffff" thing getting up off the sofa 😂 but I take vit D and fish oils when I think about it.

That’s only one study & 72 women.

An led red light mask stimulates collagen or tretonoin.

No, that's not what I meant. It was just an example of a brand.

I am confused by your responses @Fluffycloudland77.

Yes it was just one small study but are you questioning the idea that the food we feed our bodies with are used to repair our cells and that by choosing those wisely, we can maximise how effective that repair and renewal process operates? Yes.. there are other therapies and medications but optimal nutrition is not a bad place to start!

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/08/2020 16:11

No I think good nutrition is key but taking collagen tablets isn’t good nutrition.

A boiled egg would be a better use of protein. I remember these tablets being around for 15-16 years & they still haven’t come up with any good evidence that it’s superior to just eating protein. Your body doesn’t need any help digesting and absorbing protein it just needs a supply.
