Highlights vs block colour on curly hair - or an alternative?

Hi! I have shoulder length curly hair. I've always straightened it but for the past month or so i've gone back to being curly and am about to start the Curly Girl Method. My hair is naturally dark brown but i have a fair few greys so i dye it at home with a permanent dark brown colour. I know with the Curly Girl Method colour is frowned upon but i feel self conscious about the grey so i can't leave it. I feel like my curls dont really show well as my hair is so dark - highlighted and lighter curly hair always seems to look better! But maybe once i start the method this will change... Anyway, i'm wondering whether to get highlights although this is so expensive i'm not sure i can afford to keep it up. Should i try a home highlighting kit or is that a disaster waiting to happen? Or should i try dying it a shade lighter to say a medium brown or will that not work as my hair is dark (ie can you only dye to the same or a shade darker than you are if see what i mean?)?

Any help and advice would be great, thanks!!

Most folks with curly hair apply colour on a curl by curl basis. Highlights can look like straw on curly hair. Search a curly hair hairdresser near to where you live. For example Birmingham - try Spring! Or read up on curl by curl colour xx

My hairdresser told me my horrible long hair when cut to medium had beautiful curls! I’m so self critical. However apparently shorter curly hair is ok. I will try with a face mask x

Oh and me .....
Actually give great depth to your curly hair and disguise any root issues .
However get done by a colourist not to be tried at home .
Good luck it will be fab .
