Best translucent face powder

In my 40’s but still get shiny - I’m looking for an excellent quality translucent face powder. The best I have tried is HD Perfecting Powder by Chantecaille but it is soooo pricey and the pan broke before it was finished so am a bit reluctant to re- purchase. Any other recommendations?

A lot of people are recommending Laura Mercier, is this a loose powder?

So I am torn between the LM and t he By Terri... my skin is quite shiny (especially in summer when I use a lot of sun cream) ... I live in the country side so hard to get to a beauty counter and actually try before I buy. Am leaning toward Bu Terri as it is translucent...

I second Mineral Veil for a loose powder and keep No7 Pressed powder in my handbag. Since “the incident” I don’t trust the lids on loose powder! I also quite like Guerlain meteorites too, but I think they Only really suit very, very pale skin so may not be any help.

The Beauty Pie powder is Amazing!

WisestIsShe · 20/08/2020 22:03

@Oopsadaisydoddle I use the mineral veil over BM complection rescue and it's great. You just need to use a very little of it.

By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra Pressed Powder

You can get a travel size on spacenk to try it out. I get the full size one of these every year. It's magic.

Immigrantsong · 20/08/2020 22:12

@Oopsadaisydoddle

Sorry to hijack your thread OP.

Is the BM mineral veil ok to use with liquid foundation too and does is look chalky/cakey at all?

Yes you can use it with liquid make up.

You can either use after as a setting powder or even before the liquid foundation.

Wayne Goss explains this technique in a video but I am rubbing at links.

There is also an illuminating mineral veil. It's more dewy and I prefer it to the original one, but if you want a matt one go with the original one.

Immigrantsong · 20/08/2020 22:13

Rubbish not rubbing. Bloody autocorrect

Immigrantsong · 20/08/2020 22:14

OP other great options apart from Bare Minerals are:

Meteorites
Doll 10 at qvc

Nars light reflecting powder is amazing. Elf is a good dupe, and I've heard the Beauty Pie one is too.

Mumtumwobble · 21/08/2020 22:09

The translucent one powder wonder by beauty pie is amazing. I’ve tried other expensive powders but this tops them all.

Immigrantsong · 21/08/2020 22:59

Another great one is the loose setting powder by Kryolan. Massive too.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 22/08/2020 06:59

Becca hydro veil is good but only if you are pale. I have a bit of a tan at the moment and it makes me look pale.

One I brought when I was at my local shops and needed a powder and could only get it in Superdrug Is the revolution pro banana powder. Comes in a little pot with rose gold top. That was on my about £7-8 and is lovely.

Suzyseis · 23/08/2020 12:07

So I went for the By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra Pressed Powder in the end- should arrive next week so will let you know how I get on. Thank you all so much for the suggestions

I know a zombie thread but going to buy new pressed powder today as sick of my (amazing) annoying loose powder from Sisley.

How was by Terry? I’m thinking Laura nerdier but would be interested in your review please as similar age and skin type

Thanks

Lovewins · 18/06/2021 12:41

Hi @Sometimesfraught82 so-the BY Terry is very very matt- and I think I can detect a very slight white cast to it. You have to use a very light hand- I use a small powder brush not much bigger than an eye crease brush and apply under my eyes, around my nostrils and chin and in between my eyebrows. It keeps those areas shine free and looks more finished. Then if I’m still feeling a bit too shiny I use a small (£19 or so) Hourglass Dimlight powder all over. It sets and has a matt but glowy finish if that makes sense! Hope that helps!

Bluesheep8 · 18/06/2021 12:59

I’m thinking Laura nerdier

This typo made me smile Grin
