‘Stylish’ school shoes for secondary school DD?

DD is starting secondary school and needs school shoes. She’s lived in black, cheapo Vans-style shoes at primary, but her new school uniform rules are ‘black shoes - no trainers, plimsolls or boots’.

She wants something that isn’t ‘baby-ish’ or ‘ugly’ but can’t tell me what 🤪. She is a size 6/39, so in adult sizes already.

What do your teen daughters wear to school?

Ballet flats seem to be most popular at DD's school.

At my DD’s school they wear loafers - every girl wears them. They are leather and costly but DD has had the same pair for 4 years and walks home from school every day !!!

If I were you I would ask a girl in an older year what she wears and go from there. Usually schools have a type of shoe that each student in that school wears (in DS’s school all the boys wear a certain type of shoe too. ).

DM lace ups are the shoe of choice at my DDs school although is in 6th form now.

Agree with Annasgirl, def seek out someone with a daughter already at the school. The fashion will be very location specific. DMs would be a good choice around here.

Also though, I'd investigate the realities of the no trainer rule. Here, all black Air Force ones were the fashion for boys and girls last year. The year before was Vans. All the big trainer brands are very savvy and have an all black version of the popular styles because often the shoe rule will actually just mean completely black, including the sole.

I bought DD some chunky Mary Jane style Doctor Marten shoes. Doc tor Marten do some really nice school shoes for older kids and they last far better than Clarks.

Huge chunky Mary Jane styles are fashionable where I am. I think that they are very ugly but that’s what DD wants.

Every teenage girl round here wears brogues, as did DD in year 6 ( and as do I for work quite often!)
We have therefore gone with brogues for heading into year 7!
