Can anyone recommend hair elastics for thick hair?

Lockdown means my hair is thicker than ever and I have one decent hair elastic that goes around a ponytail three times and I've had it so long I can't remember where it came from. The ones that only go around twice fall out or snap.

Any recommendations to save my sanity? Nothing too pricey (I did see some for £30- I'd just lose them). My hair is long, thick and heavy and all I want to do it tie it up it of the way.

I have hugely thick hair...so feel your pain. It's so annoying! That feeling of shock when you're going about your business and your hair elastic snaps out of nowhere and all your hair cascades down!

I gave up and use a crocodile type clip.

It's not a ponytail but a sort of loose, bun type thing. I prefer it because I can just adjust it easily if my head starts to hurt.

Thick hair is great but annoying. A hairdresser told me I basically have "Two helpings" of hair. She said it's twice what a normal person has...thickly sewn and thick individually.

These are brilliant: www.asos.com/prd/8004724?acquisitionsource=pasteboard

They stretch as much as you need and to get them back into shape, just put them in boiling water and they shrink in seconds. They won't break or snag/pull your hair - my hair is very thick too and they work so well for me.

I have the clear ones but I think you can get colours to match your hair if you prefer.

I second the coil bobbles, you can pick them up in places like boots, primark etc. They are the only bobbles that I've will hold my hair securely in ponytails and buns.

Primark 100 for £1 brilliant and I dont get upset when they snap or I loose them.

hastingsmua1 · 18/08/2020 21:59

Have you tried invisibobbles?

Whenasuitcasejustwontdo · 18/08/2020 22:02

Primark ones with no metal part are brilliant and last a while. The telephone coil ones are excellent - but worth buying decent ones. I look in tkmaxx. The primark version of those are thin and loose their strength quickly.

DD & I both have long thick hair. We use the plain black bobbles from, I think, Tesco. If not Tesco they’ll be Morrisons.

They just need to be quite large & not have visible metal bits. I bought some coil ones but don’t feel like they hold my ponytail tight enough.

PontiacBandit · 18/08/2020 22:03

I have long and thick heavy hair and the primark bubbles have been pretty great. I've just gone old school and got a satin scrunchie to loosely tie it up overnight that won't pull or ruin my hair and it is brilliant. So comfy and sturdy I've been wearing it during the day. It does make me feel 14 again though so I might not wear it out of the house Blush.

OddBoots · 18/08/2020 22:05

I like these ones as they are continuous so don't have a weak spot that snaps.

TheBitterBoy · 18/08/2020 22:10

I've tried the invisibobbles and didn't get on with them, but these are similar but fabric covered and they work brilliantly www.superdrug.com/Hair/Hair-Accessories/Scrunchies-%26-Elastics/Superdrug-Black-Cotton-Spiral-Hair-Bands-4/p/762564

PurpleBag · 18/08/2020 22:19

Another vote for the ones OddBoots posted. I have thick hair and so do my DDs. DD2 has really long hair too and I use 2 at a time. They do stretch after a while so you have to replace them every now and then.

speakfriendandenter · 18/08/2020 22:25

Me & DD9 (who has very curly, thick hair) use the cool bobbles as they hold hair tightly & don't leave too much of a kink when you take the bobble out. We have invisibobbles & various other supermarket & high street shop ones. H&M, boots, Claire's all do them.

Todaywewilldobetter · 18/08/2020 22:28

The primark ones that come in a set with the thin ones too. ( I use the thin ones to hold up the guinea pig water bottle and when I put my hair in two plaits (hot, home days only!). The thick ones are great. 99p a bundle from memory. Near the tills.

SospanFrangipan · 18/08/2020 23:07

Another vote for the cheap primark ones. They're brilliant, I use them daily.

My hair is fine, but dd has Hagrid hair and recommends the type oddballs linked to from superdrug, although her nicest ones were from monsoon. I think it's just the colour that's different.Smile

homemadecommunistrussia · 19/08/2020 07:03

Oh god. Not superdrug- claires and not oddballs- oddboots
It's too earlySad
