Heat protection serum?

My hair is coloured & a bit dry. I usually blow dry it, straightening up to 2, maybe 3 times a week.

I use to use Boots Style Works Heat Protection Serum on towel dried hair, then blow dried my hair, then used their heat protection spray before straighten. Those products were the absolute best, made my hair look like hair.

But they discontinued them a while back. My hair doesn’t like anything oily, so I’ve been using Vo5 heat protect serum, which isn’t bad but it’s not as good as the Boots one was, I’ve tried a few and none are. If I straighten my hair I squirt a bit of the Tresemme heat protect spray.

However, speaking to my hairdresser a while back, she advised me to use as little product as possible. Meaning using no heat protection- as in nothing before straightening as whatever you’re putting onto your hair before straightening your ‘heating/melting’ it into the hair. She said a bit of product before blow drying would be ok.

I have tried this. Can’t say whether it makes a difference to my hair really, as I say it’s a bit dry at the ends (due for a trim). But I can’t get my head around not using any heat protection before straightening, although come to think of it she doesn’t either when she straightens my hair! Thoughts?
