Fake tan help please

I'm a newbie to fake tan. We go away tomorrow night and I wanted to apply my St Tropez tan (the blue and white bottle one) before we went. I've just sat down and want to go to bed. If I shower and apply it in the morning, how long before I can put on make up? Can anyone help please?

Hi there! I'd recommend putting it on tonight, keep it on for I think up to 12 hours while you sleep and when you wake up wash it off (maybe sleep on a towel if you feel particular about your sheets). If you've shaved / exfoliated etc it should come out smooth. As long as you've got it all off your face in the shower, you shouldn't have any problems putting makeup on right away - you could always use a primer as a skin barrier if it worried you. Plus keep in mind that in my experience at least, your face is the first part to start losing the tan due to cleansing / makeup removal etc. Hope that helps!

(sorry for multiple messages). Alternatively you could do it tomorrow morning and follow all the same steps, just be aware you might be a bit sticky / uncomfortable for 4-12 hours! :)

I would have a good exfoliate tonight, then put it on in the morning. If you put it on straight after a shower your pores are open & the tanning agent soaks in your pores making it harder to remove if you have any streaks. Wear something dark & loose, I would find some dark sheets for your bed & put a towel on the mattress under the sheet to protect your mattress.

@Nat6999 that's a good idea yeah, exfoliate sooner rather than later so your skin has time to calm down before you put fake tan on it. Also for your shower after the tan has set, keep the water lukewarm / on the cooler side or I've found it rubs off quicker. x

Thanks for your help. I will probably have to leave it. Had a few jobs to do and just getting in bed so no time to exfoliate tonight. I had a quick shower this morning but forgot to exfoliate.

You can always do the slightly less classy version of fake tanning the parts of you that are visible Grin. Usually works in a bind! hahaha

I’d second Sally Hansen for a quick fix. I’m very pale but still use the medium in the cream version - the spray is much trickier. However if you want a fake tan instead I have found that the colour I get with L’Oreal Sublime Bronze is better than any of the expensive brands. One application with gloves gives me nice even golden glow. It’s only since discovering it and Sally Hansen that I have ever had tanned legs.
