What can I look forward to wearing in the autumn?

I am trying to lose a bit of weight. Help me look forward to being a bit thinner and the cooler weather, which I prefer.
So far I am thinking about hi tops, jeans and a nice big jumper, not very imaginative.
Will there be nice fashion in the autumn? Or has covid buggered that too?

I do think that loungwear was already getting more popular even before lockdown and is sure to continue. How many people are going to want smart tailoring? Not that many...

@EraOfTheGrey, I love the solovair astronaut boots but I have 2 pairs of solovair boots, a pair of their shoes and DM emmelines, but only the one pair of feet.

Should I get some anyway?

MikeUniformMike · 17/08/2020 20:22

Just thought, all my boots are black and the rub off burgundy is nice...

Autumn means colours like wine, plum, bottle green and aubergine, and december is great for tartans.
All worn with opaque tights if skirts.

More textured fabric like corduroy and tweed.

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 17/08/2020 20:26

homemade - agree, although there's a back to work thing going on.

Had anyone seen nice thin wool jumpers that don't have a super tight neckline (like the crew neck uniqlo ones that are too tight on the neck for me unless it's very cold) ?

Autumn 2

A second article about Autumn

EraOfTheGrey · 17/08/2020 20:34

@MikeUniformMike YES. You can't have too many boots. I'm hinting at a black pair for my birthday next month.

Furthermore I'm actually going to sell some of my DM's on Ebay to fund more solovairs. My feet will thank me.

MikeUniformMike · 17/08/2020 20:43

@EraOfTheGrey, Most of my DMs went when I discovered that Solovair were much better quality.
What is the sizing like in the Astronaut? I seem to be a size down in the 8-hole boots and the derby.
I posted a photo of my super bargain boots the other day

EraOfTheGrey · 17/08/2020 20:52

@MikeUniformMike I usually wear 51/2 or 6 in any other boots but after reading the fit guide I ordered size 4 & 5. Had to return both and buy my normal size 6. The last is the same on the astronaut boots as the 6 hole Derby but different on the Derby 8 holes, which ones do you own?

I can see myself replacing a lot of my boot wardrobe with Solovairs.

MikeUniformMike · 17/08/2020 21:04

The 8-hole are size 4 and a nice fit.
I am a 5 in shoes normally, 5.5 in running shoes.
The DM Emmelines are 5 but if they did them in 4.5 they'd be 4.5.

My solovairs are ebay purchases and I have 'won' a few but the sizing seems hit and miss, mainly because going down a size means losing the width.

I've resold some of the misses, with I think 2 pairs that I'll sell in the autumn.

I need to get a life.

MikeUniformMike · 17/08/2020 21:07

I am tempted to sell the Emmelines as I would prefer the Astronaut boots. The emmelines are lovely and in excellent condition.

hmm, burgundy rub off or autumn...Grin

Can't justify £185, though.

hammeringinmyhead · 17/08/2020 22:51

I've treated myself to a pair of Grenson Nanette in tan. Last winter I'd dropped 2 sizes from pre-pregnancy so was a small 10 but I reckon I'm a 12 again now I've stopped breastfeeding. I bought loads of size 10ish jumpers. Hope they still fit...

I love a checked shirt. Mine are Primark, Jack Wills, Noisy May and Tu.

I have this from 2 years ago in a grey which I can't wait to dig out. www.celticandco.com/womens/clothing/cardigans/cable-boyfriend-cardi

And I'm excited about wearing my Levis hoodie. It's grey and so soft.

Helpimfalling · 18/08/2020 00:41

I just purchased some flatform vans I love.

I'm going to go flatform crazy by
Purchasing the dms and
Converse ones too.

Ohhh tights and dresses....my happy place

homemadecommunistrussia · 18/08/2020 07:20

Looking at that article I can get on board with the chunky boots and knitwear, but I couldn't wear bootcuts again, they really don't work for the short and chunky.Smile

OP posts:
Standrewsschool · 18/08/2020 07:42

I’m a pear and love bootcuts. In fact, have never stopped wearing them since Trinny and Suzanne days... .

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 18/08/2020 08:34

I think I'll skip sleeveless thick knits, if its cold enough for a chunky knit my arms will get cold. If its cool enough to have my arms out, ill end up with a sweaty belly with a thick knit tank...

But big collers look interesting, work well under thinner knits. Belted coats and jackets seem a nice change from the shapeless waist look that's been everywhere this summer (although that's lockdown love handle friendly...)

Chunky boots appeal. Need to find some nice black ones that don't look ridiculous for small feet.

luggageandbags · 18/08/2020 10:59

I have just ordered cashmere mix joggers and an oversized cashmere jumper. Normally joggers, like leggings, would be in my I've given up on style category but my office is not expecting to be back until January at least and I get cold sitting at home working. I have also gained a few pounds hence the elasticated waist on the joggers, my usual work trousers and jeans are so uncomfortable. Like putting shoes on after whole summer in flip flops.

I have also bought some Novesta trainers from Toast.

To offset all the loungewear :) I also have a hankering for a long puffed sleeved dress in autumn colours, but I'm yet to find it.

I make my best autumn purchases in August, that's when I look forward to autumn. Once the cold and wet actually hits I lose the will to live.

Tempted by an Arket coat but not sure if I will have need for a new one this winter, it's pure greed really.

EraOfTheGrey · 18/08/2020 16:31

@MikeUniformMike I would suggest a 5 in the astronaut then. The last for the astronaut is slimmer than the derby. Might even go so far as trying the 5.5 too.

It's good to know that you and I won't be bidding for the same sizes on eBay. You know I'm going to suggest you order astronauts just to see them in all their glory. I need another pair of them in my sad life.

EraOfTheGrey · 18/08/2020 16:46

Hammering I have the same cardigan in both navy and burgundy. Like you I'm looking forward to seeing them both again.

MikeUniformMike · 18/08/2020 17:44

I've checked the website and they are £170, and they do 4.5. So tempted. I think from the derby, that a 4 would be the right size. aaargh.
Quite looking forward to winter fashion but not the winter.

Got a House of Bruar catalogue yesterday - I ordered something for my mother a few birthdays ago. I decided that I need a tweedy kilt,
I already have a lovely Liberty shirt in peacock colours that I can wear with a plain skirt or jeans.

On boots again I like the Fairfax and Favour or Penelope Chilvers boots, but suspect that they might suit a royal daughter-in-law but I'm not one yet.

luggageandbags · 18/08/2020 19:54

Ooh thank you @Standrewsschool I always forget about next. Just realised my post reads awkwardly I meant long sleeves not long dress.

In my head I have something like this in autumnal colours and ideally up to half the price www.24s.com/en-gb/albi-dress-isabel-marant_IMA48K8FBCKWF03400

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 19/08/2020 19:17

Oooh, if you are up for shopping for other people- I need thin jumpers. Wool ideally. Not too high necked (the uniqlo crew necks are lovely but too high necked and rub a bit, rather something with a bigger neck hole!). Anything lovely been spied?

IndecentFeminist · 19/08/2020 19:41

M&S Merino is good. I've accidentally tumble dried mine and it survived 😬

Justonedayatatime11 · 19/08/2020 20:01

MikeUniformMike get the fairfax and favor! I'm an addict and their boots are just incredible
