Hi there,

Just in search of real-life ideas on how to shed a few pounds. I'm a size ten, hourglass, but I'd like to lose some weight. I've done the working out (I went five times a week and did a combo of aerobic classes and weight lifting with a PT) and didn't see much difference. I have tried dieting, same result.

I lost a ton of weight a couple of years ago (I'm 48 now) but I think that was stress as I had started thinking about leaving my husband.

I have fasted for a week long, twice, but again due to stress, and still the needle didn't move. I don't eat junk food and, as I don't cook, I tend to have a HUGE salad (leaves, one tin of tuna, balsamic vinegar, horseradish sauce) at lunch or dinner and then I graze on fruit. Lots of it.

So I'm not really sure what to try next. Any ideas? TIA.

I live alone and here's things I find easy, minimal cooking

Chicken off the hot counter with salad or one of those roasted veg trays, sometimes sweet potato mash
Eggs - omelette, scrambled, boiled
Frozen jacket potatoes - with beans or tuna or cheese
Big tubs of total Greek yoghurt with muesli or berries or banana
Tubs of fresh soup
Packs of ham, wafer thin chicken etc to snack on
Rice or corn cakes - top with cottage cheese or egg mayo or tuna or peanut butter
Wraps - with salad and meat or feta and roasted veg and pesto

So you just eat raw fruit and vegetables? No pulses or nuts or grains? Just raw fruit and veg?

SunshineChatter · 12/08/2020 21:09

@QueenCT Thank you for the ideas - I'll add them to my next online shop!

@Greenglassteacup pretty much. Although at times I open a can of butter beans, add some tinned tuna, fresh onions, salt, petter and have that. And I sometimes have some cashew nuts if they are near the checkout when I go and pay for petrol. I love cashew nuts but I realise they are very high in fat. And avocados - sometimes I add avocado to my salad

Just think easy, make use of prepped stuff! I'm on gousto at the minute but when I'm not I just keep it really simple
Nothing wrong with fish (fish counter, get it in an oven bag) and some microwave frozen veg

stayathomer · 12/08/2020 22:37

I cut way down on bread and cut out cereals. Fizzy drinks only at weekends. Drank more water. When I did this a few weeks I felt a million dollars, but I have fallen off the wagon recently

Lumene · 12/08/2020 22:40

Try the roasting tin cook books. You literally shove the ingredients in the oven, set a timer, then take out a delicious dinner.

twentiethcentury · 12/08/2020 22:47

You need to ditch the Diet Coke. My friend drank about 6 cans a day she stopped and lost 3 stone.
Seriously? But it's diet?!

pancakeloverrr · 13/08/2020 00:59

For me, I cut out bread, rarely eat brown rice, cut down on crisps (my go to food when I'm working or stressed), and it has helped a lot.

Cut out white carbs and replace with vegetables, beans, eggs, fruits, lean meat and lots of fish.

That's pretty much how I lost all my post pregnancy weight. I don't recommend it but I never exercise due to not having the time with DD, but I move a lot- meaning I cook, sometimes clean, and take a lot of walks with DD.

When we get take aways, we order healthy Thai, or healthy Chinese, but pizza is usually twice a month for DD. I do fancy pizzas a lot- probably my fav food, but not worth the extra pounds.

We try to eat healthy, esp due to covid now more than ever. We cut out a lot of filler food and replaced with potatoes, broccoli, carrots, berries, spinach, fish. Etc.

I have to admit, when I feel total shit, I order a large pizza and everyone digs in. Same with bags of crisps, tho DH and DD hates crisps Hmm

pancakeloverrr · 13/08/2020 01:02

Regarding diet cokes- I drink maybe 3 a day, not affecting my weight at all.

Also drink loads of tea, coffee, etc. Some say caffeine affects your weight but not for me. Or DH. I could not survive without tea or Diet Coke. I only get 6 hours of sleep.

pancakeloverrr · 13/08/2020 01:13

I also cut out dairy after breastfeeding- no more bread or dairy. But yes to eggs, and meat. Unless it's pizza night - fhen obv lots of cheese

pancakeloverrr · 13/08/2020 01:14

I disagree about fruit being unhealthy- I eat loads of fruit all day, with veggies, and I am so slender now. I don't understand why some think all sugar is the same - sugar from fruit is not an issue unless you're a diabetic.

Rubybluesy · 13/08/2020 01:20

At size ten why do you think you need to lose more weight? If you can't lose it is probably because you don't need to

alexdgr8 · 13/08/2020 05:56

i think you have some kind of distortion in your perceptions if you think that is a reasonable diet, also why do you think you need to lose weight.
i think you should speak to your doctor or other HCP.
good luck.

Perhaps she just wants to. For aesthetic reasons.

I wouldn't be happy with the way I look at a size ten.

What height is the OP? I'm 5'9" and a size 10. My friend is 5'3" also size 10. We look very different.
PhoneLock · 13/08/2020 10:36

What height is the OP?

That is a very good point. Quoting dress sizes without taking height into consideration is practically meaningless.

SunshineChatter · 13/08/2020 18:35

I am just under 5.4 and 57kg.

You absolutely do not need to lose weight.

Your bmi is 19.7.

Greenglassteacup · 13/08/2020 18:52

You could do with seeking help

fourquenelles · 13/08/2020 18:52

You have to track your calories accurately to know where you might be going wrong. That means recording everything you eat or drink

^This

For example 2 plums = 50 calories. Two punnets of plums could be up to 500 calories. Grapes = 67 for 100g so 2 x 300g punnets = around 400 calories.

I weigh and record everything I eat. That way I can have snacks like popcorn and Pom bears without guilt.

wowfudge · 13/08/2020 20:12

Pom bears without guilt - love it!

PhoneLock · 13/08/2020 21:23

I need to get my eyes tested.

I been wondering what porn has to do with losing weight.

Oly4 · 13/08/2020 22:12

OP, why would you want to be underweight?

LunaLoveFood · 13/08/2020 22:19

I bought some measuring cups to help with portion control (came with a list of foods and instructions for cooked and uncooked food).
