Philips Lumea

Thinking of getting a Lumea. Pale skin / darkish hair combination. Don't have many hairs and control them by daily plucking but it's a pain and I want something permanent. It's for tash and chin. Is it a permanent solution (the spec seems a bit vague) and are there alternatives out there? Thanks

Mine changed my life!
I had to shave every morning and had a 5 o'clock shadow. I couldn't keep up with plucking. I'd had laser and electrolysis with limited success.
Lumea means I only shave once or twice a week and nobody would ever know!

I've had one for a few months now and it's made a massive difference. I don't think it's totally permanent, you need to top up every 8 weeks or so (after a few cycles of fortnightly) but the hair growth is so reduced. Instead of plucking daily I can forget about it for a week or so then randomly notice one long one that's appeared 😂 Definitely worth it imo!

I’ll be a year in at the end of this month, although I did get lax for a while (but been weekly since March), and I think it’s made about a 15% so far. I’ve got PCOS so I’m wondering if that’s affected it.

ETgo · 11/08/2020 09:55

I’m watching this as I’m considering getting one. I have to shave everyday if I don’t want any stubble too! I’m just holding off as it’s so expensive and it’s like I’m subconsciously telling myself it’ll be a waste of money despite all the amazing reviews 🤦‍♀️

My husband very kindly bought me a device for removing facial hair for Christmas. Unfortunately we both did not realise that it does not work on people with fair skin, blonde/reddish hair, so remained unwrapped, & had to return for a refund. Jealous of people who can use Phillips Lumea or similar, as fed up of plucking chin hair & moustache (it is fair hair though, so not very noticeable to other people, especially with the current social distancing, and mask wearing!!

sandalsinthebin · 11/08/2020 13:03

Thanks everyone. Sounds like it's definitely worth getting.

Love mine. I was a daily plucker and had bad shadows in 2 big patches on either side of my chin. I shaved (as per the instructions) and zapped weekly for about 10 weeks but the regrowth seemed quick and I was having to shave daily, gave up with the shaving and had a massive pluck session and they didn't come back - was amazing. I just top up the zapping now every few weeks and have to pluck the occasional hair but it's a massive game changer.

@MehMehMeow I have PCOS too, try plucking between zaps instead of shaving, I wonder if they are just too strong /thick to just fall out so by plucking them you're helping them out - it definitely made a huge difference to my regrowth when I gave in and started plucking between zaps rather than shaving.

MehMehMeow · 11/08/2020 14:51

@ILoveMyMonkey I’ll try that because I’m going through razors quicker than DH at the moment

ILoveMyMonkey · 11/08/2020 21:11

@sandalsinthebin good luck

WotsitWiggle · 11/08/2020 21:18

It's not permanent but it makes a huge difference. I bought mine about 15 months ago. My lower legs and underarms are pretty much hair-free, the odd fine hair will sprout and I realise I've not been thorough in my touchups. My knees and bikini need more work, but are improving. Problem with bikini is I have quite a few white/grey hairs and it won't work on those.

Top lip and chin are vastly improved, I was plucking several thick dark hairs weekly, now it's one maybe monthly.

EthelMayFergus · 11/08/2020 21:27

I don't have facial hair but I use mine on under arms and legs and it's brilliant. I shave about once a month now, if that, and the areas I shave are smooth and look as if they've never had hair (so no black dots under arms iyswim).

Jelly4444 · 11/08/2020 21:31

I find it great too! I'm fair naturally but I tan easily enough. My body hair is a light brown I suppose. After about 3 uses I noticed a massive difference. I'm about 5 sessions in now. I find that I still have to shave my legs but the growth is very slow and its a super quick job.

My underarms and bikini line are more or less hair free! Its liberating Grin

I haven't used it on my face.

sandalsinthebin
If you do buy a lumea get the corded one as apparently the battery ones die and you can't buy a replacement battery for it.

There is a thread on here about it but I don't know how to link it.

sandalsinthebin · 12/08/2020 06:59

Thanks for the hint @Nutellalovesme

I've just purchased one, it's on the Phillips website for the same price as Amazon and if you sign up to the Phillips newsletter you get 15% off your first purchase so I saved just under £50. Free delivery as well.

HooseDilemma · 12/08/2020 19:43

I have the Braun corded version and can recommend if that is on offer anywhere. I got it as an Amazon daily deal last month. It's amazing!

SugarMiceInTheRain · 12/08/2020 19:50

I have the Braun corded one too and it is brilliant. Has really slowed the growth of dark jaw line hairs and lower leg hair, as well as the random ones which would spring up on my stomach area. Armpit and bikini line need more work.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 12/08/2020 20:06

I've had both and preferred the Braun that @HooseDilemma linked to. It's life changing! Smooth all the time and no underarm 5 o'clock shadow.

sandalsinthebin · 13/08/2020 07:46

Thanks everyone for the hints. I wasn't aware of the Braun one.

I've ordered the Braun in @HooseDilemma link. Brilliant advice from everyone, thanks again and bye-bye taliban chin
