Foundation - how to select colour when you can’t try them now

How are you picking a new foundation colour when you can’t try it on your face anymore? I’m referring to when you try a new brand so won’t know your exact match as you would with a current foundation.

I’m usually fair but seem to have inadvertently developed a tan despite sunscreen and now my current foundation looks odd. I seem to remember a website where you could put in your current shade and it would match it with the same shade in lots of other brands but don’t recall it’s name. But then that still doesn’t help now that my skin tone has changed..

I know boots no7 have a machine where they put up to your face and it tells you what colour you are. Not sure if they will still do that during this pandemic though! Might there be a phone app?

Googled and

Plum perfect
Made-2-fit
The slapp app

Looks like there are more as well.

Worth a try

I am a super pale person who cant find foundation in my colour in shops, so what i've done in the past is search for swatches of the foundation range.
So what I would do in your position is as I know that im normally (for example) Siberia in Nars Sheer Glow, i'll search for Nars Sheer Glow Swatches, someone will have normally swatched the lot and labelled them on their arm, so id then be able to see Siberia vs the other shades and roughly work out which darker shade would suit me from there. One thing I would say if you are stuck between 2 colours, err on the pale side, as you can always blend out a slightly too pale foundation and add bronzer, but you cant fix a too-dark foundation.
Not foolproof but worth investigating maybe?
