It's my hair!!

What colour is this hair?

I have naturally dark blonde hair but back when I used to dye it a lighter blond I always had to use purple toner/shampoo/conditioner at home to get/keep it to the right shade. Actually one time I tried dying my hair purple and found that the semi-permanent purple hair dye just made it the perfect cool blond colour - though that may be a risky strategy. Your hair looks like a lovely colour, but in my case if it was that colour it just wouldnt suit my skin tone so assume maybe its the same for you...

Estrellente · 06/08/2020 22:06

Whack some purple shampoo on it for 20 minutes.

Othering · 06/08/2020 23:00

I always do but I object to paying a lot of money to coming out of the hairdressers with warm blonde hair when I've specifically asked for the opposite and there's been a lengthy consultation about it.

Ash blonde

PicklePig31 · 06/08/2020 23:28

Ash blonde @Othering

Didn’t look at any of the comments until i came to that conclusion xxx

Colom · 07/08/2020 00:37

That's frustrating - it seems many hairdressers can't achieve proper ash blonde for some reason? I've asked for it dozens of times in numerous salons around the world and it's so hit and miss. I know it's not my hair because some have achieved it and my current hairdresser gets it right every time (I'm never leaving her!)

Did they put a toner on?

ChubbyPigeon · 07/08/2020 00:42

I would say its a dark ashy blonde

The colour you wanted is a lot lot lighter. Id probably call it platinum

Ash is the level of yellow in the hair, it doesnt tell you the lightness. I dont know if youd be able to get to the level you wanted in one go.

Bouledeneige · 07/08/2020 00:45

Mousey, fair or light brown.

Hairthrowaway · 07/08/2020 00:45

I wouldn’t say it’s an ash blonde at all.

Your roots look like an ashy light brown and the blonde looks like a dark neutral blonde - I wouldn’t say it’s golden nor ash.

The “goal” photo looks more platinum and ashy (it’s highlights so there’s a variation of colour). I think the largest difference is that your hair hasn’t been lightened enough - I reckon if you had the same tone but a lighter blonde you’d be happier.

I think ask the salon for a bleach cleanse & toner.

MiddlesexGirl · 07/08/2020 00:48

1st pic is beige blonde - verging on mousey.
2nd pic is silver/platinum blonde at a push.

I had a similar disaster once with an almost copper colour instead of the light blonde I asked for - and had agreed with the sylist, choosing from some hair 'swatches'.
Never went back as they wouldn't budge from their position that it was an expected result.

GlamGiraffe · 07/08/2020 00:54

I'd describe yours as ash. The second I would say is a grey blonde.
Have you put a toner on yours if its too yellow for you? Maybe a 9.01?

Blondiney · 07/08/2020 12:57

Dark ashy blonde. The other picture is practically silver!

Notonthestairs · 07/08/2020 13:11

I've realised I don't understand hair colour at all (explains a lot!) as I think it looks like a warm blonde!

DottyFlossie · 07/08/2020 13:19

Looks like light brown hair with highlights.

Othering · 07/08/2020 13:53

Totally agree. I can't see anything other than warm golden blonde.

Lilmissmissy · 07/08/2020 13:57

The second image is white/silver
This can ONLY be achieved when the hair is LIFTED to a very light blonde for a TONER to grab to it and then needs to be treated with silver shampoos and toners in between too. This is not a NATURAL colour.
The colour of your hair isnt light enough for a toner for the look of the second picture

Your hairdresser should have explained this!
To aim to get to the look of the second image will take a while to achieve. Not just one appointment at a hair dressers.

orangeblosssom · 07/08/2020 14:03

Yellowish

LynetteScavo · 07/08/2020 14:18

It's highlighted darkish blonde.

What @Lilmissmissy said. You'd need to have your hair really bleached to get it to the colour you want, and it would take a bit of upkeep. You'd also have to work on keeping it in condition and would become obsessed with Olaplex and toners. I work with several people who strive for the colour you want and most days hair discussions get quite in-depth.

Othering · 07/08/2020 15:30

My hair is bleached to within an inch of its life. It's super super light. I use fanola and toners a lot. I've had it white/silver before but for some reason, there doesn't seem to be a hairdresser around now who can achieve it. The guy who just did this is mega money and very well respected and I was even sat next to someone who had the exact colour I wanted. It's so frustrating.

OP posts:
CrazyHorse · 07/08/2020 15:55

It doesn't look super light, maybe because you're inside?

I had my hair highlighted four (I don't think my hair could take anymore) times and use a blue toner rather than purple. (I'll try to add a photo) Fanola shampoo might be a decent purple shampoo, but from what I've heard the toner in it isn't that strong (I've never tried it myself).

What colour is this hair?
JustMeAndMyTins · 07/08/2020 16:00

It’s beige blonde - more golden than ash but still cool.

Lilmissmissy · 07/08/2020 16:08

Im an hairdresser just because someone charges a lot doesnt always mean they are 'the best'
Your hair isnt light enough for a silver white look.
It has to done in slow gradual stages again the hairdresser should have explained this.

frenchfancy81 · 07/08/2020 16:10

Mousey blonde

SundayReilly · 07/08/2020 17:05

Ash blonde in the first picture.
It's what mine looks like when I have paid for very expensive colourist to create ash blonde highlights.
It's the colour you get if base colour is dark brown and you try to go realistically blonde with a clever colourist.
Looks lovely far nicer IMHO than picture 2 which looks very artificial grey/lilac blonde.

Whatthebloodyell · 07/08/2020 17:09

I’d call it ash blonde too. And it looks nice , much nicer than the second photo. But if you wanted the second photo, then I can see why you are pissed off!
