Not exactly style and beauty but wondering if you had to queue to get in, if loos are all open as normal (no queuing etc). Thinking of Oxford St. weekdays.

chottie I had a thread in Chat specifically about the children's shoe department in John Lewis that no one replied to. Do you have to book an appointment for shoe fitting these days? The website wasn't clear, but my nearest store isn't reopening and I don't want to trek to the next one to discover I should have booked.

I’ve been several times to different branches. All seemed fine to me... it’s just that shopping is not as much fun with Covid around. But that’s not JL’s fault

Yes, it was quite a joyless experience. Selfridges was much better once you are in. And the staff there are no more disinterested than they were before. Cafes are open, had nice breakfast with friendly service. Didn’t try make up, but the hall was quite busy.

I last went to the Newcastle JL pre-mask and it was perfectly pleasant and relaxed, once past the sanitiser stations. I had a long shopping list because I'll not be hurrying back. Almost had a meltdown in M&S food hall, this morning, because I'd walked there in the rain and could do nothing to stop my bloody glasses from steaming up.

John Lewis in Milton Keynes is fine. Not particularly busy, but summer is their 'low season' anyway. One of the reasons for lack of stock may be that all returned clothes and tried on shoes are quarantined for 72 hours before being put back on display. At MK if you are picking up online ordered items from the customer collection point, you don't go into the store, just go to the desk at the usual outside entrance and then wait on the marble seats around the planters. I have no problem using the hand sanitiser at all. Toilets are open but not the main cafe. Someone told me the cafe at the front of the store on the first floor is open, but I guess it may be worth checking before you go if you want to use it. Not a bad experience in there the few times I have been in since it opened.
