Yasmin Pill... Oily Skin.

Sarahlouiseis33 · 03/08/2020 13:50

So I’m 4 days into my second strip of Yasmin pills, trying them to see if they help with my hair that’s been shedding excessively for over a year now. Is it unusual for skin to get oilier on this pill? I noticed on my weeks break it dried out but now I’ve started the next pack it’s getting oily again. Could this settle down over time or? It’s also making me break out which I don’t usually suffer from Sad. Help anyone??

It shouldn’t but that doesn’t mean it won’t because it does contain progesterone.

Ring the drs about the breakout, your skin is basically providing an all you can eat bacteria buffet right now.

They usually like you to give contraception 3-6 months to settle but they whipped my implant out after 9 months when I got cystic acne with no arguments.

Terralee · 03/08/2020 15:02

Is Yasmin progesterone only? As I'm on Cerazette which is progesterone only & my skin is now very oily. So I wear lots of primer after moisturiser.

ZZGirl · 03/08/2020 15:15

I found on yasmin that it helped my skin, that's why I liked it so keep with it and see how it goes.
Additionally Lush do a great fresh face mask called Cosmetic Warrior which is good for breakouts and oily skin. I'd say in another couple of months if it's not improved, talk to your doctor.

Doctors prescribe Yasmin for controlling skin, they put me on it after I had to stop dianette because of migraines 😭

Pancakeorcrepe · 03/08/2020 16:32

Yasmin did wonders for my skin, had to stop taking it because of migraines. I’ve got a stock of six months, but none of my friends take it. Completely sealed, would be happy to post it to someone that does use it. This person could then take it to a pharmacy to check authenticity if they wished. It’s a shame for them to go to waste.

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/08/2020 16:45

I think that’s actually illegal @Pancakeorcrepe, return them to a pharmacy for destruction. If someone took them and had a reaction you’d be liable & it’s just not worth it for something supplied free to you.

Lots of medication gets destroyed before it can be taken, if they could reuse it safely they’d have found a way by know because it’s costing a fortune.

Pancakeorcrepe · 03/08/2020 17:55

Hi @Fluffycloudland77 yes you are right, it’s a bit of a shame but probably a very small waste in the grand scheme of things.

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/08/2020 18:02

It was a kind offer though.

My dh keeps trying to get me to give his dn a symbicourt inhaler because it helped dh so much he thinks dn will too 🤦🏻‍♀️.

@Pancakeorcrepe - how long were you on the Yasmin pill for?

OP posts:
Pancakeorcrepe · 03/08/2020 20:00

@Sarahlouiseis33 I think it was for a total of about 3 . The migraines didn’t kick in immediately though, they sort of crept in and became more frequent and stronger.

TableNiner · 03/08/2020 22:49

I found the opposite with Yasmin, controlled my oily skin and breakouts. Only just learning how to live without it

TheVeryHungryTortoise · 03/08/2020 22:58

My oily, cystic acne ridden skin got waaay better on Yasmin. I actually love that pill so much but I too had to stop because of hemiplegic migraines.

I would persevere for at least a couple more months, OP. COCP should improve your skin as a general rule, although obviously everyone reacts differently.

TheWashingMachine · 04/08/2020 03:21

Yasmin is great for skin, without it mine is a messy spotty oil slick. I have been on it since I was 25, with a few years break to have DC but I'm now 44, the GP said although at my age she would switch, she would let me decide. I only have a break every third pack, as the break upsets my skin a bit.

cinammonbuns · 04/08/2020 07:47

The nurse put me in Lucette rather than Yasmin as I had migraines and it has done wonders for my skin. I would try that if you are thinking of switching.

Fluffybeebee · 07/08/2020 01:20

Yasmin totally destroyed my skin. I got the most horrendous spots, I could literally feel them coming through the skin over a few hours. I went on a plane, came off 4 hours later and my face had developed at least 5/6 giant spots in addition to the 10 I already was dealing with thanks to Yasmine. That was my turning point. It was my wedding 3 weeks later and I had had enough of waiting for my skin to settle in to the pill.

A few weeks after stopping and my face was about 50% better and returned to normal another month or so after that.

I've never felt anything like it!

Sarahlouiseis33 · 08/08/2020 20:23

@Fluffybeebee oh no! How long did you take it for??

OP posts:
goatley · 08/08/2020 20:28

Yasmin is often prescribed to get rid of oily skin. It's similar to Dianette (miracle worker for my skin). It could be coincidence or the hot weather making your skin greasy at the moment.

Sarahlouiseis33 · 08/08/2020 20:29

@Fluffybeebee also did you have acne before going on the Yasmin pill??

If you don't néed the pill for contraception, just for you skin then read up on Spironolactone.

I still have quite oily skin but can't take the pill. I saw a consultant who said that this would be perfect. It acts on the testosterone hence decreasing oil. Minimal side effects but I have to have a full blood count annually.

Blueshoes85 · 08/08/2020 20:33

Yasmin really improved my skin so I love it, it took a couple of months to settle onto it but brilliant. When I came off it to TTC skin started breaking out x

Fluffybeebee · 16/08/2020 23:43

@Sarahlouiseis33
I was only on it for 4ish months, that was enough.

I used to get the odd spot around my period but other than that my skin was good. It all went back to normal once I was off Yasmin.

Lush are a misogynistic company not worthy of any support.
