What style/ brand jeans would suit me? (Pic)

I'm a size 14 (if they're stretchy) and only 5'3 with really short legs. I have a waist, bust, and very high rise so I can look like a good hourglass in a dress, but in jeans I have two denim drumsticks Confused Any suggestions to minimise saddle bags or make them an asset rather than disgusting? These are M and S skinnies, but I'd rather wear a girlfriend jean. Any suggestions?

Watching with interest as I am very similar. I think you look nice in those jeans though.

Spied · 03/08/2020 13:09

I'd keep away from skinnies.
I think a straight leg would be best and a boot cut even better ( although I'm aware the boot cut isn't classed as v fashionable atm)

MikeUniformMike · 03/08/2020 13:15

I'd go for something like Levi's curve. M&S and Gap will also have styles that will suit.

Your outfit in the photo does no favours for you although separately they're nice.

The strap on shoe cuts off the foot, a boot or trainer would be better.
Turn-ups shorten legs. Skinnies make your ankles look thin.

The shirt hides your small waist and the check makes you look wider.
Embrace your feminine figure.

Thanks Spied I do have some boot cuts from when they were in fashion, perhaps I'll drag them out and have another look if I can get them past the style police of my teenage daughters!

Thanks for the critique MikeUniformMike, I'll look at Levis certainly. Any particular M and S fit? I take your point about turnups but it's a look that I liked because I felt it made outfits look more relaxed? For an hourglass with saddlebags, smart is attainable, it's the edgier more casual look I'm failing at- and I'm aware that in skinnies it's like a cello wearing jeans and balanced on trainers!

Honestly, I like the ones you're wearing on you...so those ones!

FlosCampi · 03/08/2020 21:42

Wow thanks gamesconsoler I wasn't expecting that as an answer!

How about Levi’s 501s? They come in a slightly cropped length, so you wouldn’t need to turn them up. I’m more pear-shaped than hourglass, and I also like a barrel or balloon leg jean.

Arrivederla · 04/08/2020 09:00

Not skinnies! They are really emphasising your saddle bags - you need something a bit wider at the bottom (boot cut/straights) to balance you out.

FlosCampi · 04/08/2020 09:08

I know you are right Arrivederla, that's why I used that pic so PP could advise. I'm starting to like the look of boot cut again but I guess they're not quite distant enough to be winningly vintage looking. I know I shouldn't care what's fashionable really though.

You do suit skinnies, I like the jeans you have on. They emphasis your figure, I think straight leg or boot cut might just drown you. Try Zara for high waisted skinnies with a good stretch. I have Levi curve but find they go a bit baggy round the knee and are much more expensive than Zara.

FlosCampi · 04/08/2020 09:13

Oh I wore 501s as a teen in the 1990s and they were great Judystilldreamsofhorses, and I was about the biggest size they did. I think I need to visit a Levi's shop. It's so hard not being able to try clothes on in the shops, though I don't miss those angled mirrors that show the back of my thighs like human coloured playdoughBlush

I’m the same proportions as you and recently bought a pair of fat face girlfriend jeans. Very pleased - comfortable, flattering and relaxed fit.

FlosCampi · 04/08/2020 19:47

Thanks for the suggestion Summer23 I feel more comfortable in high waisted definitely, and more able to wear a top that shows my waist. I know what you mean about bootcuts, if the flare is big there seems to be a lot of material, i need to wear heeled boots to look balanced, and that's smarter than I'd like to be really.

Love the look of girlfriend jeans lynnielou so it's great to know they suit our figure! Are you taller than I am though?

@FlosCampi

Your analogies are hilarious OP! 'Denim drumsticks' and 'human coloured play dough' have made me chuckle no end.

I can laugh because I am a similar size Smile

I actually think you suit the skinnies but the top ends at the wrong place and chops you off in the wrong place... but I am not sure of what to suggest as I don't think I get it right!

I think you have a lovely shape, don't hide it!

FlosCampi · 04/08/2020 20:19

That's really nice of you bookish83! I know the saddlebags would unpack themselves if I lost weight, but I'd like to look nice now as well, it's much more motivating somehow to like yourself first.

Yes the thing about tops is that if I tuck them in, or they end bang on my waist, I'm ALL arse, whereas if some of that territory is covered, I hope it deceives the eye a bit as to the boundaries of that extensive province! What I actually need is to be stretched on a rack a bit.

Am same height @FlosCampi and have to run everything past my teenage daughter for approval. Not only do I have saddlebags but also fat knees. Just lucky I guess. Daughter assured me these look good!

FlosCampi · 04/08/2020 23:08

Oh wow lynnielou that's so encouraging! Thanks everyone for your suggestions, I'm feeling less of a gingerbread woman that's spread a bit in the oven.Smile I'm now daydreaming about rocking my 501s/ girlfriend jeans with pointed flats like Madonna in the Papa Don't Preach video.

Dying over here with this. Best descriptions ever. I am now curious of these jeans. I prefer skinnies or jeggings because of the stretch but should really be more adventurous. Though I tried some wide legged cropped trousers last week and my vision did not fit the reality of me looking like a shetland pony in them..
