Opi nails

I posted a while ago about pink nail polish. I'm loving some of the Essie colours and I know opi bubble bath was on the list too. I haven't bought the bubble bath yet but was going to get a couple of opi polishes. Should I make sure I have the opi base coat and top coat or will any make do? I don't want to waste money on the polished if the base and top coat are complementing it, but also don't want to waste money if I don't have to.

Also are the normal polishes as good as the gels in terms of the coverage?

I'm not sure what has happened regarding quality of OPI but it's definitely not the same.

Bubble bath was a favourite of mine. I've been having gel polish done for a long time but obviously with lockdown I have had to do my own nails. So I bought some of my favourite OPI colours.The quality is poor. Very thin, poor brushes. Not impressed. No, normal nail polish will not last or wear as well as gel polish. Any good quality too and base is fine.
