Best Jo Malone perfume for me....

BaconAndAvocado · 31/07/2020 21:10

DH is going to treat to some JM perfume for my birthday but I'm not sure which one would be good for me.

The type of perfumes I usually go for are Angel, La Vie est Belle and Coco Mademoiselle. I like a sweet strong smelling perfume!

Any ideas?

I wear 154 or Wood Sage and Seasalt is fab.
Both good staying power but subtle rather than strong.
I can sniff a Lime, Basil & Mandarin or Pomegranite Noir out like Freddie Fox. And not in a good way.
Love to know what you go for!

You can still buy Blue Aguava online from Jo Malone...the archive collection

I'd say that JM is the opposite of the ones you've listed - JM is clean and linear, which suits me because I get migraine and can't do anything too heady for day wear. Pomegranate Noir is on the heavier side though.

On the citrus question, some of the Fragonard fragrances are citrus but also a bit heavier and perfumey so longer lasting. I love Penhaligon's Orange Blossom, though maybe a bit sweet for your liking but it's gorgeous on summer skin.

The Superdrug Basil Lime mandarin is lovely
Liz Earle's no 15 is a dupe of Pomegranate Noir. I love it.

Thanks all!

Will hopefully get the opportunity to try them in the flesh now so look forward to trying some of your recommendations! Very helpful.

How about Stories 1 or 2 if you want an investment perfume.
I like Jo Malone but at £100a bottle I want to be able to smell my perfume and it disperses really quickly.
Some of the little known Guerlain fragrances are lovely Jicky etc
Or try Penhaligons .

Bananabread8 · 01/08/2020 17:22

YSL mon Paris is really beautiful

MorningManiacMusic · 01/08/2020 18:22

I agree about Superdrug's LB and M.
£4.99 but no fancy box. What's not to like!

I don't know where you are OP but if you're after a lovely investment perfume then you should go to a big city (Liberty springs to mind - lovely lesser known perfumes from niche brands) you might like some of the rich smoky scents from Miller Harris or the spicier Diptyque ones.

The fact that everyone including Superdrug knocks out dead ringers for JMs kind of tells you how simplistic they are. Nowt wrong with that- and I have ones I love, but they are a bit style over substance.

Perfume blogger here. Jo Loves ( Jo Malone's new brand) has a discovery set that includes 10 samples and a voucher for a full size bottle. It's a safer bet than a blind buy and the fragrances are beautiful. Also if you like La Vie est Belle, try Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb.

Endlessmizzle · 02/08/2020 23:04

Super excited to get into a superdrug and get this 4.99 LBM now!

bostonbaby · 02/08/2020 23:33

I would deffo have a smell before you buy. I think they all smell like toilet cleaner but then again I don't really like any of the perfumes people have mentioned here so I might just be odd Confused

justilou1 · 03/08/2020 03:13

You could also try the Guerlain Aqua Allegoria line - The Mandarine & Basil is to die for & also has staying power. The newer Granada Salvia one is very sweet (Pomegranate, Blackcurrant & Citrus to take the edge off) - Or Flora Cherryisia (Crap name, I know - It's Floral/Cherryblossom and fruity/Citrus, but light and fresh.). I love these fragrances. I have been wearing the Orange Soleia one non-stop for the last month. (It's quite tart, might not be your thing.)

CitizenCandyKane · 03/08/2020 08:59

I would try Mugler Aura. You will love it.

The Primark Jo Malone dupes have miles better staying power.

BaconAndAvocado · 04/08/2020 10:05

Wow, will definitely take a look at those Superdrug and Primark dupes.

Then DH can treat me to some other bits and bobs!

The Primark one I was thinking of is called Pomegranate and black tea. There's another called Rose oud and Lime Basil and Manadarin, all have really good staying power.

BaconAndAvocado · 08/08/2020 18:56

I finally chose Flowerbomb. It's gorgeous and had £20 off at Boots.

I also had a quick look and try of the Superdrug JM dupes. They are definitely strong and a great price.

Thanks all for all your tips Flowers

I love coco madamoiselle and the two JM fragrances I love are peony blush suede and the intense one Velvet rose and oud. Both still smell amazing even at the end of the day.

ScorpioSphinxInACalicoDress · 08/08/2020 19:14

Lovely OP. Glad you got something you liked. Happy birthday!

BaconAndAvocado · 09/08/2020 22:12

Thanks Scorpio 😊

Definitely try before you buy them.
I love Pom Noir, Honeysuckle and English Pear and Freesia
