Vitamin C or Retinol?

user1471523870 · 31/07/2020 13:41

I am in my mid 40s, no specific skin problems other than few lines appearing around my eyes and large pores, which I always had (and managed with a good serum).
I think I am ready for the next stage in skincare, but I am not sure what that is if you see what I mean?
How do I reverse my first signs of age (fine lines below my eyes when I squint)? Is Vitamin C the first one to try before moving to Retinol?
Or do the two work on different issues?

Both you can use vitamin c in the morning as long as you use SPF and stay out of the sun. Or you can alternate with the retinol. I use tretinoin every night and vit c in the morning.

I use vitamin C in the morning after cleansing and using toner. I use retinol every other evening after I cleanse. I usually leave the retinol to absorb into my skin for 20 minutes before I apply moisturiser.

I use both, but not on the same day.

Retinol. Start off with something mild from the ordinary.

Hi I have been wondering about this too, have been using vit c serum for a while but not retinol - is the ordinary the best one?

Shmithecat2 · 31/07/2020 20:44

Any retinol product you can buy online or OTC won't be massively effective.

Check out Nadine Baggot's retinol and Vit C videos on YouTube.
I am using Garden of Wisdom vit C and ferrulic at the mo' but my all time favourite is Vichy which I'll go back to.
Using Retistar serum by GOW.
Dermatica will dispense proper retinol but I'm not particularly interested in going the tret route, I'm happy with the serum.

Every morning and night after washing my face I apply a couple of dropS of hyaluronic serum that contains aloe Vera and retinol, couple of drops of Vitamin C and E oils, mix it together and apply so it sits my skin. I use Boots cucumber eye gel around my eyes then let that settle in.

I use a SPF50 minimum moisturiser and never sunbathe. I was lucky or unlucky however you see it to get the mask of pregnancy when expecting my DC1. They sent me to the dermatology clinic where they put me under the lights Shock. I swore I would never sun worshipers again after seeing the damage.

Use retinol if your main concern is anti-ageing.
