Hand luggage and toiletries - help!

Hi
The last time I took a flight with hand baggage only it was a bit of a nightmare going through security because they decided to unpack my (admittedly full to bursting) toiletries/cosmetics bag and put it in their own, which was basically a plastic sandwich bag.* I was going to an event so took a bit more makeup than I would usually take. I now have a cunning plan to get a magnetic pallet and fill it with cream or powder makeup products, to make it look like an artists portable pallet - if such a thing exists! That way, I can just put it in my luggage (as it wouldn't contain any liquids)
Can anyone recommend anything? Or does anyone have any other cunning ruses to get around this problem?

*I thought my transparent Muji toiletries bag was fine, it was the specified size etc

I don't quite understand the issue.
the usual procedure is to put all non liquid toiletries in a standard toiletries bag that stays in your hand luggage at all times. And then put all liquids in a separate plastic bag that you take out and give to them to check. no need for any cunning ruse. What am I missing?

Agree with PP, all your powder products and pencils can go in a normal makeup bag. You only need your cream/liquid products in the airport bag. I can usually fit in deodorant, perfume, moisturizer etc as well as my make up into those bags.

Only creams/liquids/ gels go in the sandwich bag. Anything 'wet'. Powders and pencil can stay in your luggage. No ruse needed.

So eye pencils, eye shadow, powder, powder blush etc stay in your make up bag. Mascara, foundation, cream blush, lipstick, lip balm in the sandwich bag along with any other 'wet' toiletries like moisturiser, deodorant etc

Thanks for your suggestions, that's pretty much what I did (non liquids in makeup bag and liquids in another),the airport staff were a bit overzealous in checking it though. Also there was a cream blusher in my makeup bag which apparently is a liquid. I did struggle to get my usual toiletries into their non-gusseted sandwich bag and I'm not quite sure why this was necessary!

Anything which isn't dry is a liquid. So creams, Vaseline etc. There is a standard size (sandwich bag) for liquids for security, and only one bag per person.
