Purple shampoo

Hi just wondering if anyone can recommend a purple shampoo that's not too drying. I had my hair coloured after lockdown and it has a very yellowy tone I'm not used too. I would like to try a purple / violet shampoo to try and tone it down a bit and maintain the blonde but my hair is fine and quite damaged from heat & colouring over the years and most purple shampoo I have tried have dried it out even more. Thanks

I’ve just bought John freida to try today for this exact reason!

Following with interest. I've bought the Elvive purple intense conditioning masque today, it's meant to be great for getting rid of yellowish tones.
I've been using Touch of Silver products but they're very drying. Keep hearing about Milkshake products but haven't tried them yet.

Osmo super silver is the best one. I buy it from Amazon, it will dye your hands if the skin is dry though!

Boomclaps · 30/07/2020 13:30

I use the provoke touch of silver stuff and then a really good mask.

Try Redken's Color Extend Blondage...bit more expensive than the others mentioned on here but absolutely brilliant Smile

I usually just put a blob in with my normal shampoo and mix it in, I find purple shampoo makes my hair too silver/white otherwise and this seems to work and doesn't dry my hair out

Dreamscomingtrue · 30/07/2020 13:38

I’ve used various purple shampoos and conditioners and I’ve found that most can be drying. I’ve just tried the John Frieda purple crush conditioner. I leave it on overnight or for an hour or so in the day.
I’ve found that it leaves my hair a nice ash/silvery colour and silky and soft.

This one is good too but a darker purple I only use the conditioner for 5-10 minutes because it seems to work with less time on the hair. It’s only £2.50 too on Amazon.

I add a teaspoon of Directions violet to my conditioner - this works really well - you can adjust the strength of the purple.

Joico is excellent. Doesn't dry your hair out.

withlotsoflove · 30/07/2020 16:28

The milkshake products are really lovely!

Cocolapew · 30/07/2020 16:30

I mix it with my usual shampoo or conditioner.

StrawberryPeach · 30/07/2020 16:52

Bleach London! Leaves your hair super soft they also do a pearlescent version of the silver shampoo which is fab ☺️

bookish83 · 30/07/2020 18:25

Bleach London products are good!

What sort of colour does it come out as? I bought the Silver one yesterday, I thought the pearlescent might be a bit rainbow-y ...
StrawberryPeach · 30/07/2020 19:08

The silver shampoo has a purple tone and the pearlescent one is more of a pink tone all depends how long you leave it on for ☺️

Bananaman123 · 30/07/2020 20:08

Another vote for john frieda

YorkshireParentalPerson · 30/07/2020 20:11

Lush do one that smells of violets, that's always worked well for me.

Username6345789 · 30/07/2020 20:30

Depends how much you want to spend, I feel Like I have tried every one going. More expensive end milkshake products (they do a purple shampoo and a leave in purple condition mousse) these are fab and what my hairdresser friend recommended. The best cheaper alternative Iv found is the Aussie one which has just been out for a couple of weeks they do a purple shampoo conditioner and 3 minute miracle and leave your hair feeling lovely. Personally I would swerve the provoke one terribly drying for your hair although does have a decent toning effect. The John Frieda one is nice and often on offer. If you are environmentally conscious soap and soul do a purple shampoo bar which is quite good.

Sorry for the ridiculously long link

Xiaoxiong · 30/07/2020 20:40

Another vote for Osmo. It's by far and away the best I've tried. I only use it once a week, and a couple of days later I do the Philip Kingsley elasticiser treatment in case of dryness.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 30/07/2020 20:43

I've been using a matrix purple shampoo but it's a bit on the pricey side. So the other day got the John Freida one as it was on offer in boots.

TheMonaOgg · 30/07/2020 20:44

The John Frieda one is good just make sure it's the intensive one rather than the everyday one.

Ghost9525 · 30/07/2020 20:44

Yoyomar · 30/07/2020 20:46

I have dry curly hair and use weleda blue malva. It's lovely.
