Riddle me this. No skincare routine-no spots, any skincare-so many spots!

Seriously. For over 30 years I have had no skincare. None. And no spots. If I’m brutally honest I didn’t even wash my face except for the water running over it in the shower. And baby wipes for makeup...sometimes. Then I start to get older and I begin to think I should make some attempt at protecting my skin. Well, for 6 months now I have cleaned my face every evening with a special cleanser and applied night cream. I also wear day cream. I have hundreds of spots. I’m not joking. Huge ones of each cheek. All over my forehead. Along my jawline and down my neck. Blackheads all over my nose. Some big whiteheads that can be squeezed. Some hard lumps that stay for a month. This was not the plan. I also still don’t look 20 again so the creams not working either! Can someone tell me what I’m doing wrong please?!

Probably a reaction to the ingredients. Perfume is a prime one.

I find that less is more when it comes to my skin. I just use soap and water twice a day. I don't wear face make up, mascara occasionally. . Twice a week I apply Epiduo at night.

If I start mucking about with cleansers and heavy night creams my skin doesn't like it.

Ethelfleda · 25/07/2020 09:37

My skin started having a meltdown and nearly anything I used on it. I switched to La Roche Posay and all better!

GhostCurry · 25/07/2020 09:44

I would love to have no need for skincare, but I wear makeup, so I need it.

Curious though, when you were not even washing your face, did you not wear sunscreen?

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/07/2020 09:52

I bet it’s the moisturiser, I don’t use any routinely.

flibbertmygibbert · 25/07/2020 12:26

@GhostCurry didn’t really wear any suncream. I don’t like the sun.

What products are you using?

LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE · 25/07/2020 12:49

My skin has dramatically improved since stopping the night cream. I use day cream religiously and factor 50 (tinted sun sense). I take my makeup off with water and a makeup cloth, and wash face with Pure face wash in the shower. No toner, no masks, nothing with beads in it. Very occasionally I use a clay face mask. Skin is so so much better - no spots at all - and I have done everything from glycolic acid to Clinique to topical retinoids! I'm 36 btw.

icedaisy · 25/07/2020 12:53

Exactly the same. Splash of cold water night, shower morning. Skin good.

Wear makeup, cream, anything at all, spots everywhere.

WellIWasInTheNeighbourhoo · 25/07/2020 13:01

Night creams give me spots too, cant use it dont need it. La roche posay effaclar duo sorts my spots out, use it like a moisturizer.

flibbertmygibbert · 25/07/2020 14:18

Thanks everyone. Will ditch the night cream as of right now.

What’s a make up cloth @LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE?

Ah. Stopped being lazy and googled them myself. Who knew! Will buy one.
