Why are wide fit shoes so ugly?

Can anyone recommend a good site that does wide fit shoes that aren't just flat and ugly? Dune used to do some great ballet flats but haven't got any now. I'm not a Birkenstock or brogue kind of person - I like ballet flats, shoes with heels, wedges etc.

Placemarking... Clark’s used to have the odd nice pair but they’ve been very granny-ish recently. I can’t never understand why stores assume that just because you have wide feet, you’re totally style-less.

mdh2020 · 24/07/2020 08:27

Have a look at Pavers.

LadyFrumpington · 24/07/2020 08:31

So happy not to be the only one with this issue - following with interest.

I get a lot of ballet flats from m and s but you have to be fast as anything decent sells out really quickly.
Ocassionally something from wide fit at new look but quality is often a bit dire.

I find high heels for wide feet are impossible to find. Clumpy awful shoes with terrible thick and low heels that assume you weight at least 20 stone because you have the audacity to have wide feet.

OceanPacific · 24/07/2020 08:31

Pavers kind of proves my point, I'm afraid.

Give 'Good for the Sole' a try - Debenhams stock them in store and online although I don't know if they're available anywhere else? I've just got some lovely wedge sandals from them which are really comfy and have a few pairs of their ankle boots.

OceanPacific · 24/07/2020 08:46

@TonyManerosFlares - they look good. Lots of faux leather etc which is OK but I'd prefer real leather because it's more comfortable and stretches and is better for the environment.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who finds this! I've spent ages looking for nice wide fit shoes and all I've managed to get it a pair of ballet pumps from Next, they're nice but not the greatest fit. But I can't bring myself to buy any other wide fit shoes because they're all hideous...so I'm following with interest!

ElspethFlashman · 24/07/2020 09:18

Go to ASOS. They carry a ton of brands and have a Wide Fit tickbox.

The only thing is most won't be real leather. But they carry a lot of the high street brands wide fit ranges. And they're obviously trendy.

ElspethFlashman · 24/07/2020 09:20

Also check out M&S , who have a wide fit line that are all ballet pumps and stilletos and court shoes.

homemadecommunistrussia · 24/07/2020 09:21

You could try next

Adirondack · 24/07/2020 09:25

Yours do some good ones. Also widerfitshoes.com have lots of granny shoes but here and there there are some ok ones. I feel your pain (my feet are too wide for M&S ‘wide fit’)

Shangrilalala · 24/07/2020 09:27

I have very wide feet and have regularly ordered from next. The quality varies and they don’t always last along time but they are reasonably priced and not at the fugly end of the market!

CatToddlerUprising · 24/07/2020 09:31

Evans, New Look, Yours

bluefoxmug · 24/07/2020 09:31

have you looked at ecco or gabor?

bluefoxmug · 24/07/2020 09:32

ara is also a good one

Pikachubaby · 24/07/2020 09:32

Gabor do wider fit for some shoes

They look nice (imo)

bluerad · 24/07/2020 09:35

Another vote for Gabor from me. Especially when they are in the sale at John Lewis. Bought three pairs this summer.

Carpetshagger · 24/07/2020 09:51

I have exactly this problem too, and I like leather uppers and leather linings too, all seems an impossible combination. However, in the winter I generally only wear boots and half a size bigger or even a whole size does the trick. This is also ok for shoes and sandals depending on style and works if you have an ankle strap. So overall now I don't just look for the words wide fit, I look for suitable styles.

Keep an eye on Clarks website, also their outlet website as there is the occasional gem.

Apparently crocs Confused since reading this post this morning I've been stalked across the web with adverts for crocs. Sad

Herja · 24/07/2020 09:58

I found sainsbury's surprisingly good for wide fit sandles (some actual leather too), asos and new look are good for pretty but wide, they break fast though and little to no leather options.

Jeremyironsnothing · 24/07/2020 10:01

I don't have a problem with boots, as pp said it's easy to go up a size.

But yes to finding leather stylish shoes.

TheAirbender · 24/07/2020 10:02

Next is great for wide fit I find.

Jeremyironsnothing · 24/07/2020 10:05

Next aren't wide enough for me.

Fatted · 24/07/2020 10:08

I think the problem is now most fashionable shoes made by high street shops aren't made of leather. To get leather shoes, you need to go a bit higher end, and unfortunately they are then tailored towards practical and long lasting rather than fashionable.

Most of mine are from Next and New Look. They're not leather, apart from my boots. But for £30 they're not bad.

Craftycorvid · 24/07/2020 10:08

Hotter sometimes has attractive non-frumpy styles and permanently on sale at the moment. Otherwise, brogues aside, DMs do a range of styles and usually fit wide. Gudrun Sjoden shoes are wide fitting too (some cute ballet flat styles among them).
