Why are wide fit shoes so ugly?

Can anyone recommend a good site that does wide fit shoes that aren't just flat and ugly? Dune used to do some great ballet flats but haven't got any now. I'm not a Birkenstock or brogue kind of person - I like ballet flats, shoes with heels, wedges etc.

Second recommendation for ASOS. They have a great range for wide fit including other brands eg New Look.

snappycamper · 24/07/2020 10:09

Glad to see this post as I have this same problem.

I generally find next to be the best of a bad bunch. My feet are long as well as wide so long tall sally is good for me but I think sizes start at 7 or 8.

Faith has been good in the past for boots but I haven't shopped there recently. Also find the odd gem on simplybe.com but it's more miss than hit

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 24/07/2020 10:12

Ecco and Hotter, but I find you have to go into the shop because all their shoes look so fugly on the internet. Case in point today, I sent a friend a link to the exact same pair of hotter sandals she'd admired on me and she came back saying 'those aren't the same shoes, they're disgusting.' But they're really nice IRL!

Bella2020 · 24/07/2020 11:11

I just got some wide fit, peep toe sandals with a low wedge heel in the M&S sale and I love them. I've had a few pairs of their wider ballet shoes, too.
JD Williams also do loads of wide fit stuff, not all of it frumpy.

Doyouknowthisisnotmyname · 24/07/2020 11:44

River island do a wide range . Simply be also do extra wide .

Bells3032 · 24/07/2020 11:49

Marisota do a great range of lovely wide and extra wide fit shoes. They're not amazing quality i admit but also not stupidly expensive either.

FiandB · 24/07/2020 22:19

Try New Look. I have very wide feet and have had a number of pairs from there. They’re the same style as regular width and very good quality for the price.

FiandB · 24/07/2020 22:21

Or try Heavenly Feet, particularly for boots

LizzieBennett70 · 24/07/2020 22:22

sargassoandgrey.com/

Not a fugly shoe in sight.

I've tried all of the above and ran screaming.

Pelleas · 24/07/2020 22:26

Following. I have very wide feet - too wide for high street 'wide fit' shoes. Most places that do extra wide fit seem to think that what you want are velcro fastening carpet slippers.

Splattherat · 24/07/2020 22:30

Try Gabor, Vionic or Fitflop all offer wide comfortable shoes similar to those you describe.

shellysheridan · 24/07/2020 22:37

I have very wide feet and Next, M and S and New Look aren't wide enough for me. I find Primark wide fit shoes and boots to be brilliant. Fit well and look nice. They don't last longer than one season but that's ok for me.

planningaheadtoday · 24/07/2020 23:01

Yes! One designer loves trogg feet:

Kurt Geiger/ Carvela, they do Xwide fitting, beautifully elegant and so comfortable.

I'm an 6X width and had all but given up. Now I've discovered him I have shoes in every colour and type.

SospanFrangipan · 24/07/2020 23:01

Yours clothing, simply be, Evans. A lot of 'plus size' shops do wide fit.

Joysutty · 26/07/2020 19:48

Last few years my left ankle is permanently swollen due to oesteo-arthritis and I have found on the Debenhams site that if you select your shoe size, then on the drop down menu you can choose "a wide fit" and then the ones in your size that are available come up on the screen, as I have ordered a few from them on-line for home delivery as sadly now our local Debenhams is not re-opening after lockdown but its much better than those old fashioned sites that my mother used to use.

lockdownalli · 26/07/2020 20:17

I also have wide feet and usually get my shoes/sandals/boots from M&S Wide fit.

Dingbat · 26/07/2020 20:31

This is a really helpful thread, thank you. Like others, I have very wide feet and struggle. Why do companies like Clarks have suitably wide children’s shoes and abandon this swathe of the population in adulthood? Their shoes don’t fit. 😡

S2SPS · 26/07/2020 21:17

Try Van Dal, web is vandalshoes which makes me smile. Not cheap but there are some beauties (as well as real grannies) and their returns work well. Widths to EEE in some styles so even I can get decent shoes which fit. Good luck!

Pansypath · 26/07/2020 21:23

Hotter and FitFlop

udnertheradar · 26/07/2020 21:29

Moshulu for leather uppers and linings

Takingabreakagain · 26/07/2020 21:37

@Dingbat I've often wondered this - where do they think those wide feet go to?
I have been tempted to get my feet measured and get a pair of the teens lace-up shoes but then I might be wearing the same as my DDs and that would be too embarrassing for them!

ghettihead · 26/07/2020 21:37

I love moshulu sandals, really comfy, wide and look good. Their boots are good too, but the shoes are fugly.
udnertheradar · 26/07/2020 21:49

Haha! I do like the Ottowa brogues

JoJoSM2 · 26/07/2020 21:57

FitFlop are wide without being called that and some styles aren’t frumpy. If you’re willing to spend £££, then Ferragamo and Chanel do width C (wide) and they classic shoes literally make your foot look half the size. The Ferragamo Varas are pretty indestructible too. I also find Tory Burch shoes wide fitting (especially the rounded styles) and a bit more affordable especially at sale prices.

LittleHootie · 26/07/2020 22:07

Marks and spencer sizing is weird. I'm usually a 7, but got wide fit boots from them in 5.5. Comfy though.

My best ever sandals were Next forever comfort. Wish I'd bought multiple pairs cos they stopped doing the ones I loved.

I have a few Evans shoes. Low heel court shoes type for work.

I have so many wide fit shoes that i thought were ok but never wore cos once on my foot in real life they were too tight.
