Why are wide fit shoes so ugly?

Can anyone recommend a good site that does wide fit shoes that aren't just flat and ugly? Dune used to do some great ballet flats but haven't got any now. I'm not a Birkenstock or brogue kind of person - I like ballet flats, shoes with heels, wedges etc.

I live in trainers and birkenstocks, I do have some lovely heels that weren't called wide but were. House of Fraser own brand Strappy wedges and Monsoon formal heels come to mind, but I rarely wear them as I don't go anywhere to wear them.

Vionic have loads of non-frumpy styles .

New Look - their wide fit shoes are the same as their standard fit ones and there is a good range of different styles. However, they are fast fashion. You could take the shoes to a cobbler to have a better sole added which will be more comfortable and healthy for you and also make the shoes last longer; it's not expensive.

Simply be is where I buy mine

WellTidy · 26/07/2020 23:25

Moshulu for sandals. I love their wasabi sandals, which they do in about 15 colours every year. I not only have wide feet but bunions too and they are very well accommodated in the wasabis.

OMG

locked2020 · 26/07/2020 23:40

Sorry that was meant to say PMK but autocorrected to OMG! My feet gain width every pregnancy and I'm living in men's trainers at the moment after reluctantly getting rid of all my lovely shoes!

WarriorsComeOutToPlayay · 26/07/2020 23:44

Calla have some really lovely non frumpy heels - not cheap though.

Elouera · 26/07/2020 23:47

Place holding as I have wide, hobbit feet. I've found success with Clarks before.

La Redoute & Landsend can be worth a look as well as plus size retailers

candyrain76 · 27/07/2020 01:50

Try simply be they are fashionable and come in various widths.

A trip in more 'mature' brands is the way forward.

Caprice have lovely nappa leather ballet flats with a small heel (1cm) that are padded. They are wide fitting but don't look like it on the foot. Amazon has some bargains on there at the moment. I picked up a pair of loafers, ballet flats and a pair of boots for £60 in total.

Riva is another brand that does some timeless chic shoes- again well constructed and using soft leather in a more generous width fitting.

JaJaDingDong · 27/07/2020 06:40

M&S wide fit aren't wide enough for me.

While we're musing, can I also ask why trainers, slippers and walking boots aren't sold in wide fit? Why do manufacturers assume we only need wide fit for "day time" sore's?

IamEarthymama · 27/07/2020 06:53

I suffer hugely with my feet, size 7 with a high arch, bunions, osteoarthritis, cellulitis, you name it, my feet have it.

In previous years I have struggled even though I love sandals and shoes condemned on here as fugly, DMs, El Naturalista, etc

DW discovered Crocs and insisted on buying a pair for me during lockdown. It’s been years since my feet have been this pain free.It makes such a difference to the distance I can walk.

In fact, just before seeing this thread I was thinking about the winter and wondering if they make boots too! 😉

IVORNOIDEA · 27/07/2020 07:02

Iam Crocs boots are very slippery- I wouldn't advise. If you have the funds I would suggest handmade boots such as Brodequin, Conkers or Greenshoes as they are made to measure. I can recommend all three and my Brodequin Parisian boots are my favourites. Would post a pic but can't see where you can on here anymore having taken a break.

Topshop, New Look, Dorothy Perkins and ASOS all do wide fit of their standard styles.

GrimDamnFanjo · 27/07/2020 08:54

I've just bought some gorgeous shoes from Sargasso and Grey. Normally it's Clark's and M&S for me.

CosmicVagina · 27/07/2020 21:16

I like Sargasso and Grey as well

Goyle · 27/07/2020 21:26

I live in ny wide fit Skechers D'Lites but they are not elegant. At work, I wear railway safe boots Smile.

Simply Be has good stock but the quality is falling.

If I was invited to a formal event, I would struggle.

Bedroomdilemma · 27/07/2020 22:10

This thread is a godsend...
I usually turn to carvela comfort and Clark’s.

winterisstillcoming · 27/07/2020 22:17

Definitely New look. Especially for going out shoes

SherbertStrawberry · 27/07/2020 22:20

I love M&S and Next for wide fit - M&S wide fit winter boots especiallt
