I've got a public sector interview next week. Think the weather is going to be warm but possible showers. What do I wear to interview in warm weather? Are smart block heel sandals acceptable? Any suggestions for outfits are welcome!

Caveat I’m not public sector but I have interviewed a lot of people and I’d say dress up rather than down.

I’d avoid sandals - they’ve very informal and if there are showers then you’ll end up with wet feet which will be miserable.

Pegasus, are flats ok? Like a ballet pump? Thinking to go for trousers, blouse and a duster jacket. Is that about right? Or would you say full on suit in your experience? Many thanks!

Re ballet flats there is a thread in S&B today which has just descended into ballet flat hate, but I think they’re fine for work and a good choice for an interview as they are smartish (albeit not to the liking of the fashion forward*) and easy to walk in.

If you don’t have a pair, then the slightly more structured are a better choice and flat pointy toes even better.

*theres another thread in S&B today with pictures of Kate Moss looking fab and wearing ballet flats so I don’t think they need to be consigned to room 101 anytime soon.

And trousers and blouse is fine unless it’s a very senior role.

Erring on conservative, clean and tidy are the best options.

That's great. I've bought a pair of closed toe block heels, so more structured like you said. Got a lightweight mac in the same colour too. I can play around with dresses I've got, or trouser and blouse options. It's not chief exec level or anything like that. Professional role.
