Dyson hair dryer-yes or no?!

Appuskidu · 23/07/2020 13:11

My hair drier keeps overheating and cutting out so I thought I’d splurge and get a Dyson. I love the Dyson vacuums and fan so am happy they are good bits of kit, but I don't know anyone who actually has one to try!

Do you have one and how do you find it?

I have an airwrap which has a mini dryer attached which I think is excellent.

Very quick drying good size for travelling (when that was a thing)

Literallynoidea · 23/07/2020 13:15

We have them at work and I think they're no better than a normal hairdryer.

But I think people who have spent that money will think they're worth it!

istandwithJKR · 23/07/2020 13:18

I've just bought one. Will report back! My main issue is I have extremely thick hair so drying takes forever. Im hoping it will be quicker.

Appuskidu · 23/07/2020 13:33

Great replies, thank you! @istandwithJKR please do report back-I would really love to know what you think as a new user!

If you have very long or very thick hair that takes a long time to dry or needs frequent washing it's amazing. It's cut my hair drying time down to about 5 mins. I think it's one of the best purchases I've ever made.

On the other hand my sister has fine hair and didn't see what the fuss was about.

Ploddingalong67 · 23/07/2020 13:44

I got one for Christmas. Wasn't sure what the fuss was about but I have curly thick hair and it's fantastic. It's not frizzy once dry and dries faster than any other hair dryer I've ever used! Would recommend.

Appuskidu · 23/07/2020 13:45

My hair is long and very thick-I can go to bed with wet hair and it’s still wet in the morningConfused!

I think it sounds like it’s worth a punt!

I have one and have found it’s no quicker than other decent hairdryers (possibly takes even longer) but does improve the condition / blow dry so I use straighteners less. I have lots of very fine hair that holds moisture.

jassa090 · 23/07/2020 13:48

A hair dryer is a fan, a heater and a couple of attachments. There is no way a £300 hair dryer can do the job 6 times better than a £50 hair dryer. You are paying for the name on the side.

pepperpod28 · 23/07/2020 13:48

Go for it OP - sounds like it might be a game changer! Might be worth taking a look at QVC if they have it in stock at the minute. That way you can use it and if you don't like it you can still return it and not have wasted your money (though I really don't think you will want to!)

whichteaareyou · 23/07/2020 13:50

I brought one because I have long thick hair and thought it would reduce the drying time- it dosent but I still really rate it as a hair dryer

TornadoOfSouls · 23/07/2020 13:51

I haven’t got one, but I spend a lot of time watching QVC Beauty (I find it gives my brain a rest and is great while ironing). They sell the hairdryer, the AirWrap and something called the Corrale. I must say I’m not totally convinced - but if you buy from them you get 60 days money back guarantee so it might be worth trying.

I did buy a decent (Hersheson’s) hairdryer for the first time a couple of years ago and it’s brilliant, so I do agree quality makes a difference, but Dyson prices are Shock

I totally agree with you, unless it brings a fresh ground latte with each use, i cannot see how it could be worth £300
starsinyourpies · 23/07/2020 14:06

I would go Airwrap if you want a Dyson, still has a hair dryer but lots of other options too.

RedCatBlueCat · 23/07/2020 14:08

I got bought one as a present.
I like it, it is better than my previous hairdryer. Not sure it is worth the price increase compared to others, but since it wasnt my money, I'm very happy!

TheProvincialLady · 23/07/2020 14:09

I got one as a Christmas present and was not thrilled as I already had a perfectly good hairdryer.

After a few uses I was totally sold. It dries my thick, longish hair in half the time and the condition has improved loads. It feels much softer now.

Appuskidu · 23/07/2020 14:37

It sounds like it’s a good match for my hair type!

Thank you all.

If you have thick wild wavy hair it is a game changer. I wash, dry, GGD hair every day half hour to dry, 30 mins to GYD. Dyson takes 6 minutes (yes I timed it) if you don’t have thick hair you will not know the daily struggle Grin

damnthatanxiety · 23/07/2020 18:54

I have no idea what this means Grin

jcoc147 · 23/07/2020 19:07

After longing for the air wrap since it was released I finally took the plunge last week and treated myself to it. I have long thick hair which is usually just one big frizz ball and so hard to manage. The air wrap is worth every single penny!! It has a hairdryer attachment for just a normal blow dry but also lots of other attachments to curl/straighten. My hair feels so much healthier already and looks sleek instead of frizzy.
Also have not had to put ridiculous amounts of products in just to tame it.
If you can afford it definitely go for it!!

carlablack · 25/07/2020 11:47

Been using one for a long time.

At first I did not notice a difference. But after I got used to it, I started missing it when I'm away :) Other blowdryers just don't have as concentrated air flow. It's really powerful.

By the way, if you blow style your hair, buy it right now. Even a rookie like me got salon results at home!

LesLavandes · 25/07/2020 11:58

Love mine. Very lightweight and compact. Fast drying

curlytops21 · 25/07/2020 13:26

I have one and I love it. My hair is shoulder length and naturally curly. It's not MUCH faster to use but it does speed things up on wash day and doesn't disturb my curls as much as a normal hairdryer so there are definite advantages.

Is it worth £300? Probably not. I bought a refurbished model direct from Dyson for £240. I suspect the refurbished models are the ones people return after the 30 day trial period so they've had very little use anyway.

It's not worth £300 but I love mine. It is neater, more compact than my old one and I do think overall it is much better for my hair.

Check out the refurbs - you still get a 30 day no quibbles return period if you don't like it and you get a one year warranty.

thethoughtfox · 25/07/2020 13:32

I go to an expensive salon: all the staff use them.

Appuskidu · 25/07/2020 14:28

Thank you all again!

Does anyone have the stand for it? Is the ebay Cheapo copy any good Grin
