Dyson hair dryer-yes or no?!

Appuskidu · 23/07/2020 13:11

My hair drier keeps overheating and cutting out so I thought I’d splurge and get a Dyson. I love the Dyson vacuums and fan so am happy they are good bits of kit, but I don't know anyone who actually has one to try!

Do you have one and how do you find it?

I love mine. I didn't buy mine (Dh did) so have no reason to try and justify the price tag.
It's way better, quicker drying time and way less frizz.

FaithHowells · 27/07/2020 18:15

I have naturally curly hair so love mine with the diffuser. By far the best hairdryer I've used, most are too blowy, too much velocity and create frizz by really blowing the hair, the Dyson somehow dries without blowing hair around.

Santina · 27/07/2020 18:19

I just couldn't justify spending that amount of money on a hairdryer. I had a discussion with my hairdresser about the Dyson a couple if weeks ago, he has used one but doesn't rate it at all. I have a Parlux, worth every penny. I've also only had 2 in 30 years, don't think the Dyson will last that long.

Lclaytonuk5555 · 27/07/2020 18:21

My husband bought me one as due to health problems I find drying my hair exhausting. Because the motor is in the handle the weight is different and I find it easier to manage. It is brilliantly powerful and dries my hair faster than my old one. I love it.
Saying that it is very expensive so I am not sure I would have spent that much on it if I didn’t have the problems I have.

JeSuisPrest · 27/07/2020 18:28

I've got long, thick curly hair and I love it (mine came with the stand as an extra gift in the box). Mainly for fact I no longer get my hair sucked into a fan/filter like in the back of a normal hair dryer, with the horrible burning smell and trying to yank it out...

PerfidiousAlbion · 27/07/2020 19:13

I love mine. Its cut my drying time in half. I have long fine hair but lots of it. The filter is simple to clean - it just gathers dust.

Hadsuchahardday · 27/07/2020 19:19

I got one for a present. Definitely dries quicker and styles my hair much better than my old dryer.

I bought a Dyson Airwrap, I can honestly say it’s the best investment I’ve ever spent. I was getting blow dry every week to go out as I have bouncy type layers in my hair and now I don’t only get colour done every 6 weeks.

The attachments are fantastic. I also had an issue with the cord and dyson replaced it no problem what so ever .. they are very good to deal with

llewejk · 27/07/2020 20:27

I have thick hair and made drying time shorter and less frizz. Also love how quiet it is, you can actually have a conversation at the same time. Used it also to dry the dog as it's less noust!

Oopydoops · 27/07/2020 20:38

I have the airwrap. It's good but not 500 quids worth of good. It's a lot quieter than a normal hairdryer though so I can dry my hair even when kids are asleep.

Goodebe · 27/07/2020 20:58

If you have long / thick / curly hair it’s a game changer - go for it.

Katiemole · 27/07/2020 21:58

Ive got very thick hair and bought one a couple of years back it has sat in the drawer , if you have a budget crap ten quid dryer then dyson will be amazing, I had a expensive professional dryer so didn’t find it great and if anything it made my dry hair even dryer.

MuppetsRus · 27/07/2020 22:23

I have very thick frizzy hair and if anything it takes longer to dry with The Dyson. I’ve actually gone back to using my £30 hairdryer....Save your money!

Endlessmizzle · 27/07/2020 22:30

Love mine. Hated the air wrap though. Saving up for the straighteners!

AliceinBunnyland · 28/07/2020 00:17

Sounds like a lot of people with curly hair like if (me included)

justilou1 · 28/07/2020 00:54

I have one because I have a wrecked shoulder and can't lift heavy things above shoulder height. There are other small dryers out there, but the shape of the dryer, with the weight in the handle and the weight balanced evenly above the hand has made the biggest difference to my hair drying experience. I have fine hair, but LOTS of it. It is very porous and can take ages to dry with a regular dryer (It is collarbone length.) It takes less than 5 mins to rough dry it from sopping wet then another 5-10 depending on how fussy I am to finesse it.

SillyLoveSong · 28/07/2020 01:11

I've just ordered one tonight!. It's coming on Wednesday and I'm very excited. I was lucky enough to win some money and so have treated myself.

My old dryer is a cheapish Nicky Clarke I've had for about 15 years. It does the job but it takes a long time to dry my hair and can sometimes heat up too much to hold.

I have long hair that is prone to frizz and I'm hoping it will make my hair sleeker. My daughter will hopefully benefit too as she finds my current dryer too loud.

Ediemcready · 28/07/2020 08:58

I got one for Xmas a couple of years ago. I was so excited when I opened it. I’ve got thick, straight hair, in fairly good condition. The hairdryer made my hair feel like straw. I googled it and found other people had the same issue. I emailed Dyson and their advice was to use new products, but my hair didn’t feel like that before I used the hair dryer. In the end I returned it and went back to my trusty GHD hairdryer and my hair went back to normal.

dontmesswiththeGC · 28/07/2020 11:32

@AliceinBunnyland for further context the Dyson rep in curry's told me I could try it out and return it if I didn't get On with it. Therefore I happily opened the box without a thought. When I went back there was a different rep who said the original rep had gotten it wrong as he'd just come from working in John Lewis where the return policy was different to Curry's. Not sure what John Lewis's policy is but that's why I mentioned everywhere would be different so to make sure to check before buying.

AliceinBunnyland · 28/07/2020 11:46

@dontmesswiththeGC If they told you that then that's different and I can understand why you thought it would be fine.

WouldBeGood · 28/07/2020 11:49

Following as I used one on holiday and loved it! I have quite long fine hair but lots of it.

I was wondering if the hairdryer or the Airwrap is the better bet?

istandwithJKR · 28/07/2020 22:40

So I promised to return and update on my new Dyson airwrap (used it for the first time today). I am hugely impressed. I opened it gingerly thinking I might return but first use was so so good.

For context, if I want my hair to look ok I have to rough dry it, section it and blow dry smooth and then tong it into largish waves and then it lasts a week or so with dry shampoo.

My hair is coarse, there's a ton of it and wavy/ curly

Today, I rough dried it, then used the barrels to dry it in loose waves. The whole thing took 20-25 mins with faffing about reading instructions. That is about 1/2 of the time. Plus hair is shiny and soft. Hurray!

nanbread · 28/07/2020 22:55

Quicker, quieter, lighter, leaves hair smoother.

Whether that's worth £300 or not is subjective!

I have the Airwrap and rate the dryer and brush attachment. I'm not keen on the curling barrels but my hair is short bob length. It seems to work well on long hair.

Since I got it I've barely looked at my straighteners or BBH.
