Gross but need to ask - the hole left by this acne ... stone?!

OK, you’ve been warned. My teenage son has been complaining about a spot on his back for weeks. I had a look a couple of times, but it was obviously a blind spot so there was nothing we could do about it. When I say blind, if you ran your finger over it, you could feel a really deep big lump, but the skin was only slightly red and raised. Like day 1 of a spot.

just now, he came in looking a bit sick. He had scratched at it, and suddenly it resolved itself, but out came, I’m not kidding, something that looked like a tiny grey chip of rock!

It was cracked down the middle so I pulled it open, and I”m pretty sure it’s just layers of cells and dirt, but it’s left a real hole in his back!

I’m pretty sure it’s not going to go, but is it OK just to wash it and cover it up? There is blood, but it’s not fast. So I’m guessing that at some point it will scab over.

Anything else required? Maybe this is more health than beauty? Assume if it scars there’s not a lot we can do about it.

Thanks anyone not too repulsed Hmm

Could you try the Livi doctor app where you can speak to a GP.?
It's a proper app which was recommended by my GP to use if you need advice and help. Its free of course

Mumsnut · 23/07/2020 10:04

We need a photo I think

bleughhh · 23/07/2020 10:04

Yep, I'd check with a GP. It might just leave a small scar but they might be able to stop that happening and won't mind you asking, in case it is something else.

LoisLittsLover · 23/07/2020 10:04

It sounds like a cyst

RunningFromInsanity · 23/07/2020 10:05

Wash it and stick some sudocreme in it.

TheVanguardSix · 23/07/2020 10:06

Or you can go online to your doctor's surgery and do an e consult (look under the tab services). I don't know if it allows you to attach photos. But your GP will read the e-consult and ring your son back about a day later. When your son talks to your GP, he can ask the GP is he can email a photo over. So snap a pic in preparation. He may be invited to come into the surgery even.

Massive blackhead?

Fanthorpe · 23/07/2020 10:08

Repulsed? You need to post this on Sporners. It does sound like a cyst. You could get a colloidal dressing which will heal it up. Sadly if the cystic sac stayed in it will probably fill up again.

TheVanguardSix · 23/07/2020 10:11

Also, it could be a plaque-like nodule, like a seborrheic keratosis (which, when scratched a lot, can come off). It's good to have it looked at by the GP (I reckon he may be invited in, tbh, just to rule out anything worrying which I very much doubt it is. Still, better safe than sorry).

Cornishbelle · 23/07/2020 10:35

I remember having something like this years ago on my lower leg, it looked like a piece of gravel? It just healed over and did leave a small mark just looks like a freckle now though. It didn't do me any harm but I remember being freaked out at the time!

lborgia · 23/07/2020 12:21

Here in Oz we can still go to the GP fairly easily, and actually now I'm giving it proper thought, one of the GPs has a dermatology interest. I'll see how it looks in the morning.

Photos?! That's a little perverseGrin It looks like a gritty bit of toenail!

I'm so glad someone suggested a photo, it's fascinating!! Def dead skin cells by the looks.

A massive black head 😍 don’t worry it will heal around it

ichifanny · 23/07/2020 12:48

Or fill back up again ... do report back to show us if it does

Iheardit · 23/07/2020 12:56

I had this on my face, it has healed fine you can’t see where it was now :)

Thisyearcandoone · 23/07/2020 12:59

I had something similar, not as big. I've got a small hole where it was, all healed up though. I put tcp on it daily. Some more came out over about a week so it took a while to heal. Just keep it clean.

Pore of Winer?

nitgel · 23/07/2020 13:01

Check out dr pimple popper lots similar on her Instagram.

smileannie · 23/07/2020 14:08

From your photo I would say a dilated pore of winer. Don’t worry it will close up naturally. Keep the area clean, pop a breathable plaster on for a few days if he wants to.

Terralee · 23/07/2020 15:23

Any redness, itching, pain or discharge he should speak to a gp for antibiotics

RD15 · 23/07/2020 17:11

Definitely put a hydrocolloid plaster on. I had a cyst on my forehead that left a little hole when it burst. I put a plaster on it for a week or so and it knitted up nicely. You can’t really see it now but there was a definite hole there to begin with xx

cozycat1 · 23/07/2020 17:30

Lipoma? Dr Pimple Popper squeezes lots of them and the hole left usually needs stitching up - get to GP

Sisterwives · 23/07/2020 17:37

Ooh! Just keep it clean and it'll heal over.

StealthNinjaMum · 23/07/2020 17:52

Thanks for the photo op, that was a beauty. Hope your son's ok.

damnthatanxiety · 23/07/2020 18:46
