The best niacinamide serum? NOT The Ordinary.

TeddyIsaHe · 22/07/2020 21:12

My skin loves niacinamide, but I just can’t get on with The Ordinary serum’s texture.

Anything with a much better texture that works? Don’t mind about price as long as it has got a high % of actives.

Charlotte tilbury’s new magic serum has niacinamide. I haven’t used it myself hipster DD2 loves it.

timetest · 22/07/2020 22:40

however not hipster

emsyj37 · 22/07/2020 22:46

Paula's Choice? I've not tried it myself but that brand always gets great reviews.

HJ40 · 22/07/2020 22:54

Pretty basic, and probably not worthy of the Style board, but Olay Total Effects has niacinamide as it's main anti ageing active and I've always found it far better than more expensive products. My skin can't take stronger stuff nor retinol so I've tried a few!

Katharinablum · 23/07/2020 08:31

@HJ40 absolutely agree. It got really good reviews on beautypedia years ago

  • a website created by the lady who started tne Paula's choice brand. She raved about it. It's also got spf30. Usually on offer in superdrug (1/2 price compared to boots)
Liveandforget · 23/07/2020 09:01

@HJ40 would you kindly post a link to the olay total effects? Is it a serum?
TIA

FaceTheory porebright serum is brilliant.

I didn't like the Ordinary at all. The porebright has niacinamide and azelaic acid in for scarring.

They give a 365 day money back guarantee it'll improve your skin. Mine is definitely better.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 23/07/2020 09:06

Skinceuticals. Nothing beats that company for bloody amazing skin products. Expensive but you really get what you pay for.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 23/07/2020 09:10

Superdrug's Me+ Niacinamide & Zinc works well for me. I tried the Inkey list one and didn't like that at all.

HJ40 · 23/07/2020 09:25

@Liveandforget This is the serum www.boots.com/olay-total-effects-7-in-1-anti-ageing-instant-smoothing-serum-50ml-10042116

It's the day cream which has the SPF, but I didn't like the smell. There's also a lightweight day one which has a nicer smell which is a bonus!

Rupertpenrysmistress · 23/07/2020 10:54

Second face theory, I do also love the ordinary but I know what you mean about the texture. My dd has just started using face theory and her skin looks amazing.

SugarHockeyIcedTea · 23/07/2020 12:12

I really need to stop coming on Style and Beauty!

Just bought some face theory stuff as I've been using the Ordinary for a while and not really seeing any difference in it at all. Hopefully this will make a difference, my skin has been such a mess from wearing a face mask for 12 hour shifts at work too.

I tried the Inkey list one and didn't like that at all.

Weirdly I find the Inkey list version amongst the more effective of all the things on my shelf! Ridiculously cheap (though the container could be improved).

Superdrug have a few , one is from me+ that’s really good sound £6 and two from revolution skin , ones 10% and the other is 15% niacinaide both around £10 ish

Papyrus · 23/07/2020 18:02

I use Revolution niacinamide serum. Really pleased with it for the price. www.beautybay.com/p/revolution-skincare/15-niacinamide-super-serum/

Crimblecrumblelover · 23/07/2020 18:04

I really recommend Paula's choice. Pricey but great.

CoffeeRevelLove · 23/07/2020 18:08

Another for Facetheory. Didn't like revolution

2TheMoonNBack · 23/07/2020 18:10

Niacinamide is added to lots of products now but I still like to layer it in as a stand-alone serum because of all of it's benefits. I've tried lots at different price points and my favourite is by Garden of Wisdom. Nice light texture, gentle on my skin (some other serums have stung me in the past) and very effective.

Loving all these recs, thank you so much!

I’ve just ordered a few bits of Face Theory as I saw it mentioned in high regards on another thread and forgotten the name.

I now want to order everything from Garden of Wisdom!!
