Is growing out fine hair pointless

As in the title- I had a bob this time last year and enjoyed it, but decided to grow out my hair again. I think I might be reaching my length limit, not much longer than that and my hair needs drying upside down, sleeping with a bun on top of my head etc. to keep it from being flat. One of the bottom ponytail pictures shows how skinny it looks when not freshly washed. I'd rather not keep it current length and either go back to bob or grow it a bit longer to have more styling options. I'm just not quite sure if it even looks good now at all, it feels a bit plain. My face is square with nice cheekbones, if I may say so myself. I appreciate any thoughts and advice.

Thanks @Plan, this is a good advice. I've read so many articles on fine hair but they're often contradictory regarding layers. I quite like the first image and the blunt bob, but not with a straight fringe for my face shape... I'm not quite sure whether I can achieve this classy look with long hair or will it just always look lank, unless heavily styled? Perhaps bob is a better option for fine straight hair than long... and I couldn't even go very long so I would have the 'default' haircut so to speak.

I have a similar dilemma. My hair is really fine and my default haircut has always been quite short ( often a chin length bob). It suited me when I was younger but as my face has filled out a bit over the past few years I don't think short hair suits my face anymore. I'm in the process of growing mine out. I have been worried about my hair looking lank as it grows and I've actually just had a fringe to give it a bit more interest. I'm hoping that with a good haircut and some good products longer hair will suit my hair as well as my face!

If you don’t grow it you’ll always wonder.
You’ll do it at some point. Up to you if nows the time or not!

Tea fringes are good, however they take away some of the hair that could be elsewhere if you know what I mean! I still prefer to have one despite that. I fear going much below shoulder length never looks good with fine hair, but I have no idea Elieza you're probably right it's best to try it, I had longer hair previously and it just looks very flat, so I suppose I've been there done that, still hoping it'll work out better this time Hmm ... I guess I'm wondering if someone else was in similar situation and what worked best in the end?

Long hair can look flat because the extra weight due to the length pulls it down flat on your head apparently.

So it may bounce up when you cut the length/weight away.

Dry with a diffuser or put in rollers or se a curling wand for a bit more body?

I don't think I can sleep with rollers on, it all seems high maintenance! Maybe I have to make peace with having either a bob or hair just below my shoulders... I never liked the look of flat long hair, just so it could be long, much prefer bouncy shorted hair. I don't think much can be done with fine hair past certain length, other than extensions, and I don't want those. These look cool, I'm tempted.
