Dyson Airwrap for thick shoulder length hair

I've read all the Dyson reviews and I am very tempted to buy it but it's a lot of money. Almost all of the reviews are from women with different hair to mine, either thin hair or really long hair. Mine is naturally fairly straight, mega (like stupidly) thick and shoulder length but I am aiming to grow it a bit longer. Anyone with a similar length/style have any advice?!

I would like to create loose waves. I've currently got FOUR curlers, none of which seem to do what I want them to and I can't do the curls using straighteners despite practicing. Kinda aiming for hair like the lady in the pic

I bought one during lockdown after wanting it for ages! My hair was fairly long but I've just had it cut to the length in the pic. It's also very frizzy and thick like yours.

It took a lot of practice with the curling attachments but I loved the firm straightening brush. I hardly had to section my hair and it dried it to a lovely hairdressing standard blow dry!
I did try the curling attachments but felt I just couldn't get the hang of it while my hair was long.

Now my hair is collarbone length it's so much easier for curling! Have found the straightening isn't as good but maybe I need to change my technique now I have much shorter hair. I start off with the straightening brush, then use the small barrel to curl the ends and comb through. I get the same result as the pic you posted. I also use a frizz serum while my hair is damp.

Took a bit of practice but I don't regret it. I used the Dyson 12 months 0% deal and watched a lot of styling videos on you tube.

I've got long, thick, naturally curly when I don't have a Brazilian blow dry hair and love mine.

My hair is neither thick nor long But my AirWrap arrived yesterday and I wanted to share my excitement. Grin
I watched a good YouTube video about creating beach waves where you invert the barrel and wrap your hair (hold the end) and then turn it on IYSWIM.

I have the dyson air wrap and it curls beautifully. I have hair a bit longer that your but a slight wave rather than straight and lots of hair.
I can get a wave to stay in my hair so I proper curl it into ringlets then leave to cool and finger pull them down into a wave. If you buy for qvc or dyson you can return if it doesn't work for you. You won't be able to return from anywhere else so a good option.

Thanks for the posts! I think I will take the plunge (and buy from QVC or Dyson). @JaneJeffer I did not realise how much I needed to see that video Grin

@JaneJeffer thank you so much for that link. I very much enjoyed that. I'm one for whom the Airwrap didn't work, much as I wanted it to Sad

notanotherdysonthread · 23/07/2020 19:56

@IloveJudgeJudy why didn't it work? Was it the technique you struggled with? Also what type of hair do you have? From the threads I've read this seems to be more of an issue with women who have thinner hair..?

Hi, @notanotherdysonthread. I don't have thin hair. I found that the way the ends take the brunt of the heat was wrecking my hair, whereas with the Dyson dryer my hair always feels sleek and lovely. The curls didn't stay in that well, either.

All in all it's a lot of money. I didn't mind splurging on the hairdryer but the Airwrap is 50% more than that. I really did want to love it, but I don't so I'm returning it.

My hair is also thick and it works well for loose waves, rather than tight curls. It doesn’t really last for the next day but that is fine because it is so quick to style I can just spray my hair with water and do it again.
