What to wear at 35

I'm 35 and have recently put on a bit of weight in lockdown, I'm now a size 12 after having been a 10 all my adult life even post pregnancy. I've never really altered much from my student style days and still wear skinny jeans, vests, sweatshirts, dungarees and leggings but think it's time for a change as you can see my muffin top now! I'm not into day dresses as I think they look frumpy on me. Could you give me de examples of what to wear and where to buy from? I usually go for Gap, New look, H and M

At 35 and a size 12, you can wear whatever the hell you like.

Seriously.

I'm 47 and wear what I like. There are no rules. What celebrities do you admire for their style? That's a good place to start.

I’m 30 and a size 10/12 - I wear whatever I like as should you!

Day to day I’m pretty causal jeans/leggings and a T-shirt or jumper. Dungarees look awful on me! If your worried about your tummy area high waisted jeans are your friends - hypercurve skinny jeans from next are my go to!

If I’m going out during the day I might wear a dress if it’s nice out.

With a young baby I don’t have a lot of cash to spend on clothes (for myself anyway!) so I tend to stick to next, H&M and the supermarkets have some really nice stuff too - especially Tesco and Sainsbury’s.

I’m 39 and a size 10/12 and I still wear whatever I feel like. I mostly shop at Topshop, Fat Face, Hush and New Look. As long as you feel comfortable and happy then wear it Smile

Wear clothes that fit you and you're comfortable in.

Other than that, wear whatever the hell you like!

I think she knows she can wear whatever she likes, and is looking for inspiration for a change, right?
I am the same, still dress in jeans / vests which I could pull off in my twenties, but definitely need a more grown-up wardrobe, and don't know where to start!

Thanks all...and I think you are right about night waisted jeans...mine are too low and my flab spills out 🙈 will buy some!

Just that's why I asked her which celebrities she admired...so she can use that for inspiration.

I like rock chick/slightly quirky style like Gwen Stefani and Fearne Cotton but I'm a bit bigger than they are

I would recommend layering to get the rock chick look - i.e. skinny jean, or maybe slim fit chinos. Then try looser longer tops or checked shirts, with a jacket (leather or tailored) and oversized jewellery. You could even experiment with wearing a hat if you feel brave enough.

Maybe try some secondhand or vintage shops if there are any near you for vintage t-shirts and jackets.

Thank you cupcakes, really good advice! 👍
