Talk to me about the No-Poo method

I saw a post on MN recently where the poster was advocating the No-Poo method. I have heard of it, and think I'm ready to try it now. My hair does seem to get clogged up and greasy really quickly. The only shampoo and conditioner that seems to keep it looking clean for longer than a day is a clay based one. Some shampoos leave it feeling greasy as soon as it's dried from that shower.

I have very long hair that's naturally wavy when wet, lots of it (not thick one hairdresser said, just loads of it) and a fringe. I'm finishing work for the summer tomorrow so thought now would be a good time, when I can hide it under hats and scarves whilst it transitions.

All advice, thoughts and hand holding throughout is appreciated!

I'm interested too and it seems a good time to try it as it'll be quite easy to avoid people for the couple of weeks that it's nasty looking.

  1. What do you do at the hairdressers? I get my hair coloured and think the shampooing helps get the colour off.
  1. What do you do if your hair is very smelly? E.g. after sitting round a campfire or sweaty after a long run. Will water alone kill the smell?

Oooh. Good questions @TinyGringotts

Today I've finally learned how to Dutch braid my hair in an effort to hide it. I'm almost 38. Though I did have a shower and only use water on my hair beforehand as my hair is crazy when dry and easier to manipulate when wet.
