This cheery thread has been a source of inspiration and joy during these wierd and unsettling times. To find other obsessives to share a love of clothes and some real bargains to be had!

A nice focus away from domesticity which is quite intense at times with 3 small children.

My credentials are keen gardener with herb raised planter
Guardian and Times are newspapers of choice
PhD in neuropsychology
In non covid times love culture, opera, theatre, art, music
Spend a lot of time at British seaside Suffolk, Dorset and Cornwall
Enjoy cooking and Ottolenghi column in Guardian has been giving a source of new inspiration lately, occasionally including lentils!

Saurus72 · 22/07/2020 10:23

@applecatchers36 oh I love the opera too. One of the saddest casualties of Covid was the cancelled Madam Butterfly at the ENO in April - we booked the tickets last year! Plus several Hayward exhibitions cancelled. We’ve started going to sculpture parks - Hannah Peschar last weekend, Anish Kapoor next weekend. Lovely to see some art.

neveradullmoment99 · 22/07/2020 10:25

I have zero Toast credentials although I do paint from time to time and love visiting art and galleries but I have little time to do it. I am really just ordinary, don't read much as I work and reading feels a little like work most of the time. I only garden when I have too and its mostly weeding! I cook to feed myself and my family and its usually just functional and sometimes I loathe it so rope my 13 year old in to teach her. . I do love alternative clothes. That's it! I've never fitted into the Toast typical customer.

neveradullmoment99 · 22/07/2020 10:29

I do love prints though.....and beautiful colours and materials.

neveradullmoment99 · 22/07/2020 10:35

@Railingsohno I love the check top that you bought but see its dry clean only. Do you think it will hand wash? I don't do dry cleaning. Also, I have tops like these and am generally a 12 so usually order a 10 in Toast. Did you size down? And lastly, is it itchy? TIA :)

neveradullmoment99 · 22/07/2020 10:36

Its the Osaka check wool top.

AFingerofFudge · 22/07/2020 10:39

Hmm, not sure about my Toast credentials; certainly none of my close friends dress in Toast and I live in an area seen as quite "hippy" and I suppose years ago I used to dress in fairly hippy clothes however now I like the bizarre mix of Toast and Lucy & Yak.
Years ago I worked with someone who liked Toast and I inwardly used to think "prison clothes" Grin
Not sure when I started to find them appealing, probably a couple of years ago.
Ok, will try a credentials list:

  1. I like wandering moodily along coastal waters, especially the west coast of Ireland
  2. I like baking
  3. I'd like to be a writer
Erm, that's it I think!
applecatchers36 · 22/07/2020 10:43

What a coincidence !! Saurus that was the last opera we saw at begining of March at the ENO. Love Madame Butterfly and I really hope they will show it again for you, it's a wonderful production.

It’s raining here. I have furthered my Toast credentials by putting a veg curry into the slow cooker. Today I am wearing Cotton canvas trousers (£40 in JL sale) and a sleeveless Toast shirt from last summer’s sale. Also an extremely ancient (like 40-50 year old ancient!) cashmere cardigan that was my dads. I rescued it from the rag bag 😱 a couple of years back and I love it. I will never part with it. My mum was slightly horrified that I was going to wear ‘that old thing’, my dad is secretly chuffed.

@ilovecherries - those trousers are lovely. Are they the tapered ones?

Dottty · 22/07/2020 11:22

Hello all!
Oh goodness. I have just discovered this thread, well the previous one and have been catching up. I have been fanatically refreshing the JL website for a few weeks trying to acquire Toast bargains and now know the reason why I needed to be so quick off the mark to nab some bargains. I have spent a fortune both on the JL website and the Toast one, have sent quite a lot back but love my favourite purchases. Incidentally I wish I had discovered you carrot growers sooner in lockdown.
My list of items I think I am keeping:

Paisley print PJS and gown (love love)
Check gingham wrap dress (love love)
Linen gingham trousers grey
Kate Sheridan belt bag (fabulous)
Chie Mihara wedges (amazing - just love CM)
Bold Ikat kimono wrap (didn't expect to like this as much)
Slate cotton linen jacket ( another surprise like)
Garment dyed drop sleeve top in cumin (amazing colour and bargain)
half sleeve linen t in burnt red

have returned loads and am awaiting:

the Cercle bag in black
Seiko skirt
Chevron stripe cotton tiered top in ruby( I am excited about this as £29)
waxed duffle coat

I have definitely spent far too much but so many wonderful bargains.

The other item I really would have liked is the honeycomb dress or jacket but could not justify either in addition to the above list. I am popping to JL after lunch so am wondering what may be left if anything.

neveradullmoment99 · 22/07/2020 11:25

cotton linen jacket ( another surprise like)

I have this. Its beautiful isn't it?

neveradullmoment99 · 22/07/2020 11:26

I love the belt bag but its just to pricey for me after my spends. What colour is it? I have a hankering for the mustard!
Also have the burnt red half sleeve. Its lovely.

ilovecherries · 22/07/2020 11:31

Yes, I don’t think they were described like that on JL, but I’m sure they are the tapered ones on the Toast site.

I have the black - I loved the mustard but thought the black would fit in with more of my wardrobe. The quality is incredible and the leather smells amazing. Thought it would be really handy for just my phone, , hand gel and mask when popping out.
AuldFox · 22/07/2020 11:37

Looking good @ilovecherries and @Laska2Meryls

I have very few toast credentials apart from love of books, art and living in an old house. I still dress formally for work (gasp!) I have a love of Toast prints over their plainer clothes.

Freesialime · 22/07/2020 11:47

Hi everyone. I’ve been enjoying this thread for a few days and have just signed up so I can take part.

Dotty, I got the chevron blouse in ruby, a size too large but at £29 I didn’t hesitate and I love it. Wonderful quality.

Also got Anokhi dress in sand and striped voile dress in slate with fuchsia pinstripe. Almost returned both because they are not perfect on my top heavy 5’9 body but then realised that nothing is! So why not wear beautiful things.

When someone mentioned Persephone books as well as lentils I knew I’d found my tribe.

Awaiting deliveries from JL and Toast inspired by the lovely conversations here.

Dottty · 22/07/2020 11:52

@neveradullmoment99

Absolutely, I tend to go for things slightly more fitted and worried it would be too boxy but it is quite contemporary and I love it and like the pockets.
ilovecherries · 22/07/2020 12:16

I love that waist bag as well, but my waist really isn’t my best feature and I was concerned the belt might not be big enough. Though looking again, it does say 110cm which IS more than big enough.

Freesialime · 22/07/2020 12:23

Kate Sheridan has a good sale including samples. Some belt bags I think that can be worn cross body too.

ilovecherries · 22/07/2020 12:33

The workwear jacket has arrived. 12 is a MUCH better fit. Still a bit oversized but not overwhelming so. I was also meant to receive the cotton/wool striped jumper today - says it’s out for delivery, but courier said he didn’t have it.

How annoying @ilovecherries. If its Hermes they are crap in my experience It will prob be with you in the next couple of days.

neveradullmoment99 · 22/07/2020 13:09

Ive ordered the belt bag in ochre so that's the last. Will return if its not me.

AFingerofFudge · 22/07/2020 13:17

I too have been wondering about getting a Kate Sheridan bag but then I came across these (apologies it's a photo as I can't link on my phone) and you can choose from a wide variety of colours and then choose your strap.
