Sleeping with hair in a silk wrap

Does anyone with European hair do this?
I've heard it's fantastic for reducing frizz etc. Tried it, but the wrap keeps coming off. Before I spend hours trying to sew a contraption with elastic, or spend ££ buying one does it work?
I am so fed up with my wild hair, I'm thinking outside the box of products and looking for other things I can do.

I bought a silk sleeping bonnet from ebay (as sexy as it sounds...) to stop my curly hair getting all frizzy overnight. It worked for the hair, but left me with indentations on my forehead from the elastic that stayed until 3pm!

Some people cover their pillow with a silk wrap, or buy a silk pillowcase, that might have the same effect?

QueenCT · 19/07/2020 23:14

Yes, I use a silk bonnet or satin pillowcase

My late Mum used to use a silk hair cover for sleeping, but she used to use some kirby hair grips to keep it in place, and no elastic stuff.

Satin pillowcase or silk bonnet

Not silk... but I sleep with a buff on, stops me waking up looking like hagrid.

It's good if you have dry hair, hell if you struggle with oil, but honestly, just buy a silk pillowcase.

So? Hagrid is a sex symbol.

“So? Hagrid is a sex symbol.”

Maybe, but I mean I think Chris hemsworth is too - I’d still be a bit freaked out if I woke up with his hair as well... lol

What’s a buff?

My daughters told me about silk pillow covers. We each have a few.

We all have medium to long hair and use a sleep bun plus the silk pillowcase. Works wonders

Fab thanks all, I think I'll try a pillowcase, sounds easier and more comfortable. I did wonder if something about the wrap holding the hair less free would help too, but I really don't fancy an indentation on my head all day @MarioPuzo

@tabulahrasa can you recommend a buff ?

tabulahrasa · 20/07/2020 09:44

I just buy them like that link... can’t say for definite I’ve bought those exact ones... but wherever on Amazon is cheapest for a few of them.

They’re fairly thin stretchy fabric, so they just stay out once they’re on and are tight enough without being uncomfortable tight...

They’re actually what made me finally start writing my hair curly, because I don’t have to wet my hair and style it every day if I sleep with those on.

tabulahrasa · 20/07/2020 09:47

Wearing, lol, not writing...

I use a silk pillowcase I sometimes just tie a silk scarf round my hair and grip it in place if my hair is being particularly unruly

I bought one of the Silke London ones and have been using it for a few weeks. My hair is boob length with a natural loose wave/curl and hasn't been cut since January, and I've still got short bits from having a baby, but since using the wrap it's much softer/silkier and I've got way less frizz, and those short sticky-up hairs on the top behave a lot better. It stays on all night and I only get a dent in my forehead if I don't position it exactly on my hairline, but that doesn't last long. (My head is 56cm so average)

I use a silk pillowcase as well and also wear a mouthguard and a sleep mask so I'm a lovely sight for DH in the morning.
