Anyone know a bit about Invisalign?

My dentist has told me that because my upper teeth have a slight underbite and my lower teeth have a slight overbite, that the teeth are gradually wearing each other out. She's suggested some orthodontics to sort them out, and to be honest the side teeth have driven me mad my whole life.

I haven't managed to go back to see her since lockdown but I'm keen to get some ideas of how long and how much this may take to correct with Invisalign (or other braces).

Has anyone got similar teeth and had them straightened? And any ideas on cost?

We do invisalign at my practice, my guess is 4k and 18 months ish.

I signed up to Smile Direct. Yes there’s obviously some issues with doing braces without a dentist BUT there’s nothing to stop you getting your teeth looked at professionally whilst doing it. The 3D scan and photos were all free at the time too ( just before lockdown)
It’s £1.5 K and I was quoted 5 months, ( Invisalign wanted £4,5 k and 15 months). Unfortunately the predicted end result ( straight teeth but still an over bite) meant they couldn’t help. I did get my money back with no issues as I was within the 30 day trial.
Might be worth it in your case if you feel brave!

I don't know for sure, but I currently have fixed braces (clear train tracks) and I think they are better for correcting bite.

I'd stick with invisalign and shop around, because I personally believe it's important that your treatment is overseen by a dentist/orthodontist. I had quite a large (about 7mm) overbite, slightly overlapping front teeth, and slightly crooked bottom teeth, and paid £3k for just over 5 months of work. One of the greatest decisions i've ever made, and it was worth every penny.

My Invisalign took around 16 months and cost around 3k. Best money I ever spent.

When I saw a dentist to talk about Invisalign, they said they would fit a wire at the back fo my teeth to hold them in place after the treatment. I was expecting a retainer to wear at night and the idea of a wire freaks me out a bit.

For those who've had it done, did you have a retainer or a wire, and if it's a wire - is it weird? Do you stop feeling it after a while, does it get in the way of anything?

My son had Invisalign cost over £3k , paid over 12 months . His was to close gapped teeth .
He saw the dentist regularly as the mouthpiece was changed every few weeks . Included in the price was hygienist visits and tooth whitening.
He wears a retainer every night and will have to for life.
It’s well worth the money . Changed his whole life as he can now smile with confidence.

I have a retainer and a wire after invisalign. Both dss, who have had fixed braces, also have a retainer and a wire. It seems to be the done thing now after any orthodontic work. After a few days you don't even notice you have the wire.

I have Invisalign. My advice would be to see a good and recommended dentist/orthodontist. Moving teeth can be a tricky business, you need an experienced person doing regular checks and adjusting as necessary.

Mine cost £3.5k and started in February 2019 and I'm almost done (slightly longer than anticipated due to Covid). My teeth look brilliant and I'm really pleased with them and wish I'd done it years ago.

In answer to an earlier poster, yes you can get a wire (not sure if everyone does) but I think that's the same with any type of treatment as I have friends who had fixed braces and have a wire. If you don't then your teeth will move back. As I understand it, you stop noticing it after a couple of weeks.

I'm thinking about Invisalign or smile direct. I got a quote for Invisalign and wrote it down somewhere so need to find that! I think it was £2500. The orthodontist explained their prices reflect how many they do ie more patients = able to offer lower price

I also got a 3D scan at Smile Direct and I was quoted closer to £1,000 with them. There are some helpful review videos on YouTube and people who have posted every week to track their treatment.

Hi I am on my second round of Invisalign and its taken 18months so far! Still got 5 to go and hoping the gap in my teeth is going to close (main reason for having it) but I had an overbite and overjet so bringing the rest of the teeth back towards the gappy one has taken a lot longer than I thought but the results are looking good. TBH its been a faff but think it will be worth it! Going rate is around £3.5-£4.5k but think I would get a proper dentist to do regular checkups who you think would look after you properly. You can probably get a clin- check for free which is a video of how your teeth will move towards their final result - have a look out for offers or ask your dentist for one. Good luck☘️

The orthodontist estimated 23 weeks for my treatment and my teeth are similar to yours so nothing like two years.

I’m getting a fixed brace (lower only) because Invisalign was stupidly expensive, takes longer and would apparently not accommodate my wish to keep my upper front teeth as they are - I don’t want a Uniform row of Hollywood pegs! Can they deal with the lack of space below with Invisalign? Are they proposing to bring them all forward?

Started my Invisalign yesterday excited to see the results however my mouth is so sore haha and my teeth feel like they are going to fall out!! I'm such an avid tea drinker did anyone still drink tea with them in naughty naughty I know but I just don't wanna keep taking them in and out!

My Invisalign costs me £3.5k. Best money I’ve ever spent. This included the aligners, the appointments and the whitening at the end.

It took 18m.

Worth every penny in my opinion.

@ememem84 did you drink tea or coffee with them in or anything? Haha

@jollybobs89 I did drink tea with mine. Initially I didn’t but about halfway through I just couldn’t be bothered taking them out anymore. They were cleaned every day and I cleaned my teeth a lot. Dentist did say while not advisable it wasn’t the end of the world.

My teeth were very, very bad. It took just over 2 years and (not in uk) €7000 to get perfect straight teeth. I have a fixed wire on top and bottom to stop them moving.
Worth every single cent. Wish I’d done it earlier!

@jollybobs89 it was difficult to get used to and it was occasionally sore if you haven’t already got some get some orthodontic wax (boots sell it) to put on any rough bits.

I’m on day 10 of Invisalign! It’s cost £4k which includes a fixed retainers and removable retainers and whitening treatment at the end. I have 24 trays altogether so should take around a year.

I’m sticking to water when the trays are in and only having tea and coffee with meals. I’ve never brushed and flossed my teeth so much!! Definitely think I’ll lose weight as I’m only eating 3 meals a day and not snacking at all!
