What shoes with combat trousers?

I have to wear combat style trousers for work (new job). They have to be black, not open toed or sandals, and comfortable.

Can anyone recommend any suitable shoes? I don't especially want to wear trainers as my feet are big in proportion to my height, and I always feel like trainers make my feet look huge! Also, my feet get really hot, and then my body follows suit!

Any ideas gratefully received :)

I wear black converse with a white toe (not all black converse) with mine at work. Would that work?

Ernieshere · 17/07/2020 22:55

Hi Tops.

Anything other than trainers will look a bit weird IMO

chipsandpeas · 17/07/2020 22:57

sketchers

Ernie the converse would work I think - are they comfortable?

You're prob right Dooki and it may come down to trainers but just exploring options.

Any particular sketchers chips?

Thanks all.

Any reason why not DMs? I'd think that was the obvious choice with combats?

Livingley · 17/07/2020 23:26

No sensible reason Sadik other than I've never had any! I'll go and explore now!

Docs, high tops or a chunky trainer would go well.
Docs would be my first choice though with a combat trouser.

Skate trainers DC - really round toe and make your feet look short - worked in the 90s

I loved old style dc's for this! They started to change the shape of them so I went off them and haven't looked for any for at least 7 or 8 years but it's my birthday soon so I may get just treat myself.

My sometimes huge looking feet always looked not small but not overly big either in them.

They were super comfortable too.

Sorry livingley I didn't answer you.

Have you tried searching for safety shoes for women? Or men I suppose it doesn't matter.

There will be lots of possibilities under that search for black closed toe shoes that aren't like office type shoes (brogues or ballet shoes etc) if that makes sense?

GemmeFatale · 18/07/2020 05:42

Boots would be my first thought. Assuming you’re going to be doing a lot of walking I’d try and get the most comfortable option you can and don’t worry too much about how it looks. Any black boot or trainer will just sort of disappear into the uniform if that makes sense.

fizzpopbang123 · 18/07/2020 08:32

I wouldn't go for converse, they offer zero support if you are on your feet or walking for long periods. Plus they are long and narrow so I would have thought may make your feet appear bigger. Although other than huge trainers like Air Force 1s, I don't get this fear.

I would go for a hi top trainer with some cushioning, like vans, or Nike blazer or jordan. Or a chunky boot like a DM.

Converse are flat and narrow. Get 'knit' trainers which are made with a cool upper fabric and standard supportive footbed. Most brands do them. Nike definitely do.

I wear Converse, size 6 with navy combat trousers, (Community Therapy) my feet are very flat and these are the only shoes I can wear all day without them hurting, as the Converse are flat they don't dig into my arch.

I think it depends what you will be doing, I take a lot of heavy equiptment out with me, so I have to be careful not to drop any on my feet (which has happened)

Thank you for the further suggestions. I've ordered some docs and some vans.
