Belt for this dress

I ordered this dress, which for £17, I'm quite happy with. Apart from the matching fabric belt is minuscule and can't be used.

I'm looking for a wide tan belt (or anything else anyone can suggest), but I'm not seeing much.

I don't want to have to return the dress (for a second time!)

Help!

Have you tried eBay?

CuckooCuckooClock · 17/07/2020 19:19

H n M have some nice wide tan belts

Russell19 · 17/07/2020 19:20

I think it looks fine without a belt.

notabelter · 17/07/2020 19:25

@CuckooCuckooClock A few options on there! Thanks very much. I have the H&M app and didn't even check!

@Russell19 I definitely want a belt. It has belt loops, so would look odd without.

I think a tan or neutral belt would be great, or you could go for one to match the colour of the flowers in the print. I'd probably go for a narrow belt, or at least nothing wider than an inch. One of those woven styles would look lovely, I reckon.

Please don't send the dress back! New Look had a good selection of belts last time I looked, but I usually get them off eBay now.

notabelter · 17/07/2020 19:28

@Bodgedboxdye thank you too! I rarely venture into eBay, but I will.

Ahhh in that case I think a thin, leather brown belt maybe to tone in with the buttons. You don't want a thick belt with that.

I too think it'd look nicer without a belt. I bet you can remove the belt loops by shipping the stitching they're held on with. I think a wide belt would make it look distinctly meh. Looks cool now.

notabelter · 17/07/2020 19:43

This is with the original wide belt. So the loops are very wide. I prefer the wide belt to give me some shape

Can you take a pic with the original belt?

HelloDulling · 17/07/2020 21:12

Cute! Would be nice with a raffia or cork belt.

notabelter · 17/07/2020 21:28

@Russell19 no, because it doesn't fit 🙈

@HelloDulling would have ordered that, but don't can imagine the small is too small. The medium is out of stock.

Ironically, the 10 I ordered was absolutely huge. Had to order an 8 and a 6. Ended up in the 6, which is unheard of.

You have a lovely figure, but not much of a waist or torso so I think a wide belt won't work very well.

Maybe just wear the dress to the shops and try on a selection so you can see for yourself?

1forAll74 · 18/07/2020 14:22

The dress is lovely, but as it is above your knees,it might look too bunched up with a firm belt. It's a pity that charity shops are not open,as I have often found nice belts of all sorts in them. I have sometimes made a belt myself, by finding some suitably coloured fabric from an unwanted clothing item that I had. or sometimes finding an old belt that I have saved from years ago.

Loveinatimeofcovid · 18/07/2020 14:36

You could always just unpick the loops. Given that it sits above the knee and has such a high waiste my first instinct would be to go beltless.
