To dye my hair or not dye my hair? (Pic)

What colour would you say my hair is: Auburn? This is my natural colour but I am totally bored with it now and getting my hair done tomorrow. But of course now that I am about to get my hair done people are telling me how lovely it looks!

I'm late 20s now and my hair has darkened a lot and I miss its lighter coppery vibrancy. I'm thinking I might look better with a more Jessica Chastain strawberry blonde colour.

So: keep my colour or go for Jessica's colour?

Do it!!! You will feel loads more confident Wink

I highly recommend a post-dye hair treatment like Olaplex if your salon offers it. Mine is highlighted blonde/copper and it makes a huge difference to how long the colour lasts

PlatoAteMySnozcumber · 17/07/2020 18:33

It doesn’t matter whether people like your natural hair colour, you’re bored of it! Go for the copper, it doesn’t stay bright for that long anyway. Embrace a change!

MissMarplesHandbag · 17/07/2020 18:34

2nd pic is lovely. I have a red headed friend whose hair has lost vibrancy as she’s got older. So I I can understand what you’re saying. If you fancy a change and what to jzuzz your colour up, go for that 2nd pic. It’ll look great.

@Maria53

My skin is pale with light freckles
Go for it then 😍
Evelefteden · 17/07/2020 18:38

Make sure you stock up on decent hair products to keep the colour

delilabell · 17/07/2020 19:23

Id definetly have it done! The second picture hair would really suit you.

Amiable · 17/07/2020 19:42

The second picture is lovely, not sure about Jessica chastain's colour on you, bit too pale? Anyway, whatever you go for enjoy it, and remember it's only hair, so even if it's not what you want, you can always dye it or cut it!

Notglam · 17/07/2020 20:33

Definitely the second pic, it’s a stunning colour. We need pics once you’ve been!

Maria53 · 17/07/2020 20:37

I will definitely post a pic after if people want to see!

Still list on the haircut though and I'm getting it done tomorrow morning. Layers that arent too layered? Cant think of an appropriate celeb. Found this choppy look but maybe it's too much.

I say dye it

As for the cut, I think keep it all a blunt one length with a few subtle layers if necessary. I think the choppy look is outdated

40andginger · 17/07/2020 20:49

I would definitely get it dyed because you will never know otherwise
I myself am red headed like like really red no mistaking it and for years I dyed it every colour I could
I'm now 40 and I am back to my natural red/ginge and I love it! Won't ever change it
Unfortunately it took me years of experimenting to get to this realisation and sometimes u just need to go for it
Although I would say dyed red hair can looked washed out and dull I think so be prepared for the upkeep

Can't wait to see your new look tho

Maria53 · 17/07/2020 21:05

The reason I am keen for layers is because I feel self conscious about my heart shaped face and lack of cheekbones! I want a cut that will slim the face bit.

I am getting the hair done at a pin up retro style salon so it will look quite classic. I will get the colour done later on. I think I am leaning towards dyeing it the second pic Smile

Great to hear from a fellow redhead @40andginger ! Yes I do feel I want to experiment. Like you I will probably end up leaving it alone completely in the end.

You have lovely long hair and layers would shake it up a little will feel like a big change without losing the length
I like that your hair has different tones through it also
I have layers and my hairdresser was always trying to talk me into growing them out which I hated so I cut my hair myself now and with long hair like ours it's very easy especially if u just want layered hair that's feathered around your face

gypsywater · 17/07/2020 21:13

I think it needs to be thinned out a bit

Whatthebloodyell · 17/07/2020 21:26

Do it!

Maria53 · 17/07/2020 22:12

@gypsywater Yeah it does, I feel like a big lion with this mane.

Obviously I'm at the mercy of the hairdressers scissors to some extent but I want to give a rough idea!

I got it cut into a 40s style today. You cant see it well in its current form but she added light layers beside my jawline and some other subtle ones. I feel SO much lighter.

Colour next.

I LOVE the cut!!!

Maria53 · 18/07/2020 22:28

Thank you @YouStupidBoy. The upkeep will be another story!

I have decided to go for the colour in the second pic and I'm quite excited. Thanks everyone!
