Glasses and Face Masks

Posting on here because I wanted to find out if anyone has a good way of making this work? Wearing a pair of glasses with a mask.

( Not to discuss the yes/no of wearing them.)

Currently I have a fitted type cotton one, a pleated cotton one and some disposables.

Glasses steam up
Seems to make glasses fall off which is the worst thing.

Lovely people do you have any solutions?

I saw a tip where you rub the lenses with soap and then buff clean. Apparently it stops the steaming up. It is very good for bathroom mirrors too

dementedpixie · 16/07/2020 12:40

Tips I've seen include having the mask further up the nose so the glasses sit on top; fold a bit of toilet roll and sit it just underneath the mask over the bridge of your nose; use a bit of micropore tape along the mask at the bridge of your nose; rub soap onto the lenses and buff them clear again

Definitely need one with a wire at the top. I've made my own, with a pipe cleaner sewn into the top seam.

I couldn't work out why my glasses were steaming up so badly when I wore mine the other day, until I realised that the pipe cleaner had slipped to one side when I washed it - once I sorted it out, no more steaming up, so a wire is definitely the answer!

Thanks very much. Going to try all of them. 🤓

@Fred578 Well i've just done the soap and water thing and my glasses are amazingly clear never mind putting on with a mask. Omg the world is so bright .

Oh fantastic! Glad I passed on some good advice Grin did you use liquid soap or a bar?

Topseyt · 16/07/2020 19:04

I'll be trying some of these as I simply cannot find a mask at all that doesn't steam my glasses up. Walking round the local mini supermarket today and I had to keep taking my glasses off to polish and unsteam them so that I would be able to see what I was buying.

Veenah · 16/07/2020 19:08

I don't wear glasses but my sister is in a mask and glasses all day at work and swears by but shaving foam rubbed on and then wiped off.

Veenah · 16/07/2020 19:09

Sorry that should be BIT of shaving foam!

lakesidesummer · 16/07/2020 19:11

I wear glasses a lot and have had masks now for a couple of months.
For me what works is.
Wear the mask high enough on your nose you can pop your glasses over it.
Have a fine mouldable wire in a seam along the top of the mask.
Pipe cleaner or florist wire.
Then you can shape the wire over your face.

I tried the trick of using a tissue between the mask and your face to absorb extra moisture, this works but I found it a pain.

SparkyBlue · 16/07/2020 19:14

Going to try these tips. I was in Tesco last week and I totally fogged up.

AnyFucker · 16/07/2020 19:16

I am spending a fortune on daily contact lenses instead

threecatsownme · 16/07/2020 19:26

You will destroy any coatings on your lenses by rubbing soap, shaving foam etc on them. This will not be covered under a manufacturer warranty so could end up being very costly.

The wire on the nose it the answer. I wear masks 10-12 hours a day with glasses and have no issues when the mask is correctly fitted.

@Fred578

I've watched endless videos about it. None of it works. Angry

goose1964 · 16/07/2020 20:16

I have oddballs neoprene ones, they come in two sizes, unless you have a tiny head like DD they stretch across your nose making a seal, the just pop your glasses over the top. DD really need ones for teenagers

LoveBeingAMum555 · 16/07/2020 22:03

Try playing about with where your mask and glasses sit. I find that if my mask is fairly high up and I wear my glasses ever so slightly down on my nose its much better.

I bought some pricey anti-fog spray for my glasses and it doesnt make any difference.

QueenCT · 16/07/2020 22:49

I bought a fabric one with a wire off Etsy and it's brilliant. Wasn't expensive. Not sure if I can link.. wore it today and no issues

Voice0fReason · 16/07/2020 23:07

Washing up liquid!
Cleans them brilliantly, then wipe some on and buff it off.
Also metal wires on the masks. I got some self-adhesive ones from Amazon that I've added to my existing masks.
