Would this dress go with black tights?

Trying to decide whether to keep this dress, but in view of the fact I basically live in black opaque tights for about 10 months of the year, I’m wondering whether I’ll actually get much wear out of it (I already have enough summer dresses!) Could I wear it with black tights or is that a no-no? It’s slightly more of a pinky-red than pictured if that makes a difference. Footwear would be black brogues or ankle boots.

Advice gratefully received - it’s a bit of a departure from the colours I normally wear black so I don’t trust my own judgment!

It’s a very plain dress so if I saw it with black tights I might think it was a uniform for a job like a carer or something

ParcelFarce · 13/07/2020 20:54

Yes, I did wonder about the combination of a bright block colour and black tights looking a bit uniform-y... was thinking more air hostess (love the idea of a red and black carer’s uniform Grin)

Maybe the right jewellery would help avoid this?

What about skin tone tights? Or if you live in black ones, what about ones with a slight pattern to mix it up a bit?

If I worse black tights, I'd likely team it with a black cardigan or a scarf with black in it.

Not with black tights I don't think. But it's a lovely dress, couldn't you wear it in the spring or on colder summer days?

athousandstrawberrylollys · 13/07/2020 21:02

Do you wear knee high boots? It could look very cosy with boots and a cardigan

athousandstrawberrylollys · 13/07/2020 21:03

with black tights as well, I mean

ParcelFarce · 13/07/2020 21:13

Agree it looks way better with bare legs/skin tights but I’m trying to only buy stuff I’ll get lots of wear out of (I currently have too many summer dresses and not enough winters ones!) It’s a nice shape though and was a bargain (Hobbs sale) so I’m undecided! I really like the idea of slightly patterned black tights to break up the blocks of colour a bit. Yes to the black cardigan too esp as I have about six

More biker boots than knee-highs lollys but I like that idea

I would wear it with black tights in winter, yes. Probably with boots.

sqirrelfriends · 13/07/2020 21:27

I would wear black tights with it and because it's plain it gives a lot of scope for accessorising. A cropped cardigan in a contrasting pattern or colour would look lovely.

If your name is Lucy Worsley go ahead, but nude or a brighter colour would be better

goose1964 · 13/07/2020 21:35

Sorry didn't mean to sound nasty about Lucy but that's her signature look

ParcelFarce · 13/07/2020 21:49

Ha, goose you are right about LW! I think she rocks that look... agree it’s probably not the easiest for most of us to pull off though (tiny photogenic blonde I am not!)

I love dresses, they are very much my wardrobe staple, l absolutely adore them.

Given the neckline and the longer sleeves, l think this one is better suited to cooler days. Outside the “bare leg seaon”, I think black tights would be OK with it, but some other colours would work better. Maybe instead of changing the dress, change your tights. Alternativly, send the dress to me!!!!
