I bought an Essence Instant Volume Boost mascara and forgot I had it. I've started using it now and it's great. Super volume, doesn't flake and is cheap as chips.
I normally use Chanel Le Volume which is great but oh so expensive or the latest Dior one in the soft tube. I was unimpressed with the new Maybelline one that is being heavily marketed/advertised.

I'm not sure where they sell Essence make up in UK.
I'm in Ireland and they sell Essence in pharmacies or Penneys ( Primark in the UK )

In the UK it's sold in Wilkos.
My DD & I use that mascara (obviously our own individual tubes) in rotation with YSL Volume, Benefit They're Real & Diego Dalla Palma Lash Booster mascaras.

BritishBeautyBlogger website gives the Essence mascaras good ratings

Is this the one in the black tube with green writing?

Burgerkitty · 11/07/2020 06:09

I’ve just started using the Essence Lash princess mascara (Black tube with green writing) this week and it is amazing and very cheap. I ordered online from Justmylook.com which has free delivery on all orders. They also have 3 for 2 on all Essence this weekend.

GloriousTechnicolour · 11/07/2020 07:12

Good tip. I've been on a hunt for the perfect mascara for 20 years now.

Can you categorically state that it will not end up under my eyes??? Grin I swear my eyelashes repel all mascara and even tubing mascara seems to flake now

relievedlady · 11/07/2020 07:26

I bought a £2,50 mascara from primark on the word of a few people last week.

It's the lash effect one.

Absolutely brilliant. Doesn't run down your face and makes your lashes look instantly longer and for £2.50!!

Was previously using a ted baker one which is lovely but not as effective

MustDust · 11/07/2020 07:31

Worth a shot if it's super cheap but like GloriousTechnicolour I end up looking like a panda unless I have a decent waterproof so would be interested so know if it does smudge. I found benefit good but got clumpy, I've been using a No7 one for a while that doesn't smudge but it's not super volumising.

LadyEloise · 11/07/2020 09:13

It's not waterproof.

Essence is the only mascara I use these dys. I've spent an absolute fortune on expensive mascaras in the past, and nothing is any better than my £3 Essence one from Wilko! I always buy a couple at a time as I'd dread running out !

Immigrantsong · 11/07/2020 22:58

Essence does do good mascara. I love their blushes too.

thirstyformore · 11/07/2020 23:41

It's a brilliant mascara but I find it smudges. I think there is a waterproof version?

crimsonlake · 12/07/2020 00:27

I have the waterproof version and it was very disappointing, did little for my eyelashes. I agree the normal one smudges a lot.

LadyEloise · 12/07/2020 09:24

The non waterproof one doesn't smudge on me at all.
I have very sensitive eyes and they react to so many products but not to this one.

Ive got 2 essence mascaras. The no panda eyes one and a waterproof lash effect. Both really good and have a really satisfying to use chunky brush

beautifulmonument · 17/07/2020 23:37

I use essence princess lash mascara too, it's brilliant. My eyelashes are rubbish, very short, and this is one of the few mascaras that actually gives me nice lashes. I prefer the non-waterproof one. It doesn't rub off under my eyes but does transfer a little to my oily upper eyelids but that happens with all mascara anyway

GloriousTechnicolour · 18/07/2020 07:41

After this thread I ordered loads of Essence makeup from JustMyLook. I hadn't heard of it before and we don't have a Wilko's.

First try yesterday of the waterproof mascara, waterproof gel eyeliner and whipped mousse foundation.

Mascara - good. Didn't smudge! Still on today as wouldn't budge last night when washing my face... Took a few layers to get a dramatic effect but that's ok.

Eyeliner - a little bit of a harsh line but pretty good. Didn't smudge and the line can be softened if done when first wet.

Mousse foundation - I've never used this kind before so didn't have another brand to compare it to. Wasn't sure when it first went on, thought it was a bit dry or something but it actually kind of settled in and lasted well all day. Wouldn't wear it on a night out or a long day at work but I'll try it again for day to day.

I'm struggling with makeup at the moment. I'm mid 30s and I wonder if my skin/look is beginning to change slightly. The makeup of my 20s/30s looks a bit odd on me now.
