Jo Malone

I’ve been wanting to try the Pear and Freesia for a while but now I have a JL voucher, I can’t get to one to try it out and nowhere local sells it.

I am tempted to just order it but those who know the Jo Malone scents, do you think I’d like it based on the following:

I like:
Light to mid scents
Citrus/fruity/light floral but not too sweet
Nothing oaky, peppery or musky

If not, any other recommendations?

Thanks

Based on that I would say you would like it. The safest scents they do are that, peony blush suede and wood sage sea salt (the best IMO)

yoikes · 10/07/2020 16:02

Why not order a cheap decant from e Bay first?

TildaTurnip · 10/07/2020 16:20

Thank you. I have never used eBay - I keep thinking I’ll have a look one day.

cloud Is the sea salt one quite light?

Perfume parlour does very very good dupes for jo malone. Just if you wanted to try it first.

SunStruck · 10/07/2020 16:24

It was my wedding scent, I think you'll absolutely love it based on that description!

SunStruck · 10/07/2020 16:25

I absolutely hate sweet scents myself so it's definitely not that! It's light and amazing, very special as I haven't smelt anything else like it before (and I am a big perfumista haha!)

wizzler · 10/07/2020 16:25

I found pear and freesia very sweet and a little cloying.
My favourites are blackberry and bay, followed by wood sage and sea salt

TildaTurnip · 10/07/2020 16:35

Grin now I’m more confused. Maybe getting a dupe would be a good idea.

Hadn’t seen the blackberry and bay...is the bay very strong?

Or anyone have another suggestion? My current favourite is Elie Saab (the original one). I’ve worn it for years now and fancied a change.

Love Pear and Freesia. Also Poppy & Barley is really nice.

readingismycardio · 10/07/2020 16:52

Pear & fresia will be my wedding scent. I love it!!!

DieFly · 10/07/2020 17:12

Pear and freesia is my absolute favourite. It's fresh and not cloying.

TildaTurnip · 10/07/2020 17:36

Yes fresh is what I’m looking for!

Wood sage and sea salt is my fave. It smells very fresh. Unfortunately, it does not last long on my skin. Disappointing for an expensive scent.

LadyEloise · 10/07/2020 18:12

Aldi do a great dupe of the Pear and Freesia in a hand wash and a candle.
I love the scent if Freesias in real life but I wouldn't buy JMalone Pear and Freesia- it's a hard to describe smell. It's strong.

Nanasueathome · 10/07/2020 18:35

Op, I’ve sent you a pm

Acquitaine · 10/07/2020 18:36

Hi OP, I have this much of a mini bottle left, would you like me to post it to you?

Oops, sorry for the double post!

WowOoo · 10/07/2020 18:42

I find it too sweet and cloying. I'd hang and wait if I were you.

I love Ellie Saab because of how it changes and still smells lush at the end of the day. I wish I still had a bottle of that.
But all I can think of doesn't fit with your no.3 requirements. Get a small bottle?!

Acquitaine · 10/07/2020 18:44

Ooh I've just remembered I have a full mini bottle of poppy & barley you can have too! I shoved it in a drawer because I'm not a fan.

Starting to sound like a mad perfume pusher mind...

Srictlybakeoff · 10/07/2020 19:00

Lime basil and mandarin is lovely , and is one of the original jo malone fragrances. It citrusy and fresh - very much a day perfume .

Justjoshin22 · 10/07/2020 19:13

@Acquitaine that’s so lovely of you! OP it sounds like you’d like it. I have had it too and it is lovely. I’ve had the heavier scenes. Sambac and marigold and the velvet rose and oud, both I LOVE but they aren’t day to say perfumes, more for going out / weddings

Rightmovenewbie · 10/07/2020 19:19

The Aldi stuff smells amazingly similar to JM. I have the pomegranate noir real shower/bath gel and the Aldi stuff is remarkably close. Guessing the pear and fresia dupe will be similar

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 10/07/2020 19:24

I got a tester of the JM honeysuckle perfume recently, and I think it fits your requirements very well - you have described my perfect perfume, and I really like this one. I found the rose perfume a bit too heavily rosy, but I do like the wood sage and sea salt.

If you like floral, perfumes, you might like to try Fragonard’s Marche Aux Fleurs, which is my all time favourite. You can’t buy it in the U.K., but I order it from Fragonard.

SkelingtonArgument · 10/07/2020 19:28

I never understand the love for Aldi “dupes” - they are nothing like the originals in strength or longevity
