Are TK Maxx designer brands legit?

I've just picked up a Self Portrait dress for £30 on the clearance rail that appears to be current stock. It feels cheap but it is viscose and polyester. I find it hard to believe that it's legit, how would current stock end up in my local store?

Slight second would be my guess. Look for a fail in the pattern matching, or stitching slightly out of regulation.

I used to work for a well known brand that was also available in tk maxx.

In our case current season stock would end up there if we over-manufactured. Any stock sitting in our warehouse is a liability, so we would shift it quickly to tk or other outlet stores. I would imagine that following the last few months there will be a lot of this going on, as retailers won't have bought as much as usual as their stores were shut, but of course the manufacturing process was in motion many months ago.

We also manufactured products specifically for tk. They were made to the same quality standards as our main lines, eg same fabrics, same shapes, same stitching, but were produced in a cheaper way by using less colours (a two colour print can be much cheaper than four colours) having no embellishments, using plastic zips instead of metal, using cheaper hangers, using little or no packaging. So the customer would be getting our brands genuine style, but at a value point that suited their pocket.

Could be seconds, samples, with very slight differences or end of season clearance. All legit.
