Hair failed incompatibility test

Hello! Hoping someone can advise as I think I know what the answer will be but someone with experience may be able to help.

So basically I went to my salon for a consultation for getting a perm and they cut some hair to do strand tests. I got a call this morning to say my hair had failed the incompatibility test and therefore they weren't willing to do the perm.

That's good, I'm glad they did the tests! The salon said it failed as I have box dyed my hair and the chemicals would react with the perm solution they use. I'm thinking that this would require growing out the colour completely. This would take time obviously so I was wondering if this is the only solution or is there anything else I could do to correct this?

Basically the incompatibility test is to make sure your hair wont melt, snap or completely dissolve with the perming solution. it is a BAD idea to get a perm if your hair has failed this. it means the solution did one of these things to your hair and could leave you bald!

My advice would be to grow out the colour OP then have another test done. Permanent colour doesn't disappear or get fixed with a conditioner etc it just gets covered over and causes more damage. This is especially true with box dye.

Thanks @Bioprepper I thought that would probably be the answer. Looks like I'm in for a long wait. I don't want to lose my hair!
