Sweaty Betty v Lululemon

temproasted · 08/07/2020 20:45

I recently treated myself to a few Lululemon items having never shopped there before. I am quite disappointed tbh and it'll all be going back. I thought (maybe incorrectly) that they were a step above Sweaty Betty but this definitely isn't the case from the experience I've had. Would you say quality wise they are on a par with each other?
Interested in others thoughts Smile

I'd be interested to hear what you ordered? I always thought they were a 'step above' too, especially in leggings that don't roll down.

temproasted · 08/07/2020 21:31

I brought some shorts (Hotty Hot something or other), some socks and a scrunchie. The socks and the scrunchie I'll keep (because I'm not sure i can return them) but the shorts are a poor fit and not worth the money imo. Even the scrunchie is £8 (same as Sweaty Betty one) and the SB one I have feels much better quality.

I have leggings from both places. Love them, but would not say Lululemon is a step up in quality (I find them about the same), just price

Sushiroller · 08/07/2020 21:45

Honestly, ignoring the cost not that great.
They are fiiiine.
But I rate George at asda way higher. I think they are far better than my lululemon gear.

temproasted · 08/07/2020 21:45

Thanks Purple. I love my SB leggings and was excited about trying the Lululemon shorts (can't justify more leggings have got so many). I think you've summarised it perfectly Smile

@Sushiroller wow I'll have to check George out then! Thanks Smile

I love my lulu leggings, never tried sweaty betty but definitely find my lulus way better than any other high street/supermarket leggings.

I bought a vest top from lululemon that i dont think was worth the money, but think their leggings are amazing and so flattering.

fizzpopbang123 · 08/07/2020 21:50

I don't get the impression Lululemon are better than SB at all. Going by what I've seen on social media and fitness events, they seem to target a younger market, albeit one with a bit of cash. I do have a couple of Lululemon vest tops and they are nothing special. Their website is appalling and puts me off on that basis alone. They also never seem to do discount codes or any offers to even try and tempt me.

I know far more people of all ages who wear SB. We do have a shop locally though, so that may help. I have tons of their stuff, all the activewear has been great quality and fit for purpose. I am sometimes less impressed with the loungewear. Knitwear often pills and some of the trouser shapes are downright bizarre. Always find a discount code knocking about.

If you're in the market for high end activewear though, can I recommend Varley and LNDR? Also Fashercise, MyGymWardrobe and The Sports Edit for small but good quality brands with a bit of an edge style wise.

I live in lulu. Wear their soft leggings every single day. They are just so cosy.
Have a couple of sweaty Betty ones but I think the material is More For actually working out Wink

Itsabeautifuldaytosavelives123 · 08/07/2020 21:56

Cost factor with Lulu has to be factored in as it's an imported brand from Canada, SB is a UK brand

temproasted · 08/07/2020 22:02

Thanks everyone
@fizzpopbang123 some great recommendations there (I've already got a couple of items in the LNDR shopping bag!)

I like my Lulu leggings, they are the best I've had so far. I like their hoodies too. I've never tried their vests so can't comment on those.

ShyTown · 08/07/2020 23:34

In the US they’re about the same price but Sweaty Betty is online only so takes a while to get here. I don’t think Lulu is great quality and I’ve been disappointed with everything I’ve bought there considering the price point. I actually had this conversation with a group of colleagues, including 2 marathon runners, pre lockdown and we all unanimously agreed Sweaty Betty is superior.

Ifonlyiweretaller · 09/07/2020 11:35

I tried Lulu Lemon as I presumed similar to Sweaty Betty, but I was so disappointed. One pair of leggings wasn't even finished (as if they'd just used scissors to cut them from full length to 7/8th!) Fit wasnt great either.
Sweaty Betty wins hands down for me.

KatharinaRosalie · 09/07/2020 11:56

I've always thought they're about comparable. I have some amazing leggings from Lululemon, they must have been washed hundreds of times by now, and still like new.

cardoon · 09/07/2020 12:36

What style of lululemon are you that love them buying?
I have SB zero gravity (much raved about) which I don'r really like as they feel so plasticy. Reluctant to go for lululemon in case they have the same feel Confused

user1494157537 · 11/07/2020 20:10

I live in SB and Lulu - SB powers are the best I’ve found for working out but love Lululemon aligns for mooching.

AnaViaSalamanca · 11/07/2020 20:43

IMO lulu is much better quality for certain things, but you have to know which fabric and which style to choose. Some of their things pill like crazy. Some have lasted 15+ years and look like new

HermioneWeasley · 11/07/2020 21:06

What do people think of Fabletics? I got 2 pairs of their power hold leggings in a recent deal and really like them, but can’t imagine paying full price (over£50 😱)

LunaTheCat · 11/07/2020 21:30

I like Lululemon tops. Their leggings don’t seem to hold me in ( I need lots holding in). We cannot get sweaty Betty in my country but when I have visited uk was shocked at astronomical price!
I use Laura Jane leggings and tops mainly - their leggings are non see through and very hooldy-in.

vixxo · 11/07/2020 22:03

I think Lululemon has more upscale designs and a MUCH nicer colour palette compared to all the other brands. Their Align leggings and some of the classic tops are so so flattering, I also have some casual/lux joggers that are amazing quality. I'd stick to their best sellers/classics and not bother with newer styles, some of which are definitely too expensive for the quality.
I also love my sweaty betty power leggings, I have two pairs and they are hands down the best workout leggings - no pilling, no fading, totally opaque. But other than that I think a lot of SB's designs and patterns are a bit tacky.

safetyzone · 12/07/2020 13:54

Lululemon fit me better and have better designs. I have a pair of SB power leggings which are comfy, good for exercise and doesn't roll down from tummy. But I managed to poke a hole through the fabric with my fingernail (that never had happened with lulus) and there's some fading and thinning around the bum area. So I'm going to stick with lulus for now (not that I need more, they last ages). I also prefer nike over SB.

cardoon · 14/07/2020 11:35

Can you give us a guide to the better Lululemon fabrics/styles @AnaViaSalamanca

Delatron · 14/07/2020 13:33

I never found any styles that I liked in Lululemon!

Agree the SB gravity leggings feel plasticy and cold! I like their bum sculpting soft ones though and prefer their styles.

AnnaNimmity · 14/07/2020 14:25

I much prefer Sweaty Betty leggings (which I use to actually work out in), although lululemon are longer in the body so their tops fit me better.

I also have a couple of lululemon coats/jackets which are lovely I think.
